WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

Our School is a co-educational school for children from 4 - 11 years and is situated in a beautiful rural location, approximately 4 miles from the heart of Exeter, which provides a warm, friendly and safe environment where your child’s individual needs, talents and abilities will be recognised. Children are encouraged to make positive progress in their development and learning and are given every opportunity to achieve their highest personal educational development. Our small numbers (between 90 and 100 children in the school depending on the time of the year) and our experienced, committed staff ensure that the academic and pastoral needs of each child are met.

AIMS

  • To maintain and develop links with the church and the community and for the children to experience a Christian environment.
  • To ensure that all children achieve their full potential and develop talents and academic abilities to the highest standards.
  • To develop pupils’ enjoyment of, enthusiasm for, and commitment to learning and achieving.
  • For all children to learn independently and collaboratively within school and outside school as part of the community.
  • To ensure that all children have a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the criteria of the National Curriculum.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Most of the classes are arranged in mixed year groups and the teachers work individually or together in ' teams ' to plan the children's work. Most of the time the children are taught by their own class teacher, but there are occasions when the classes link together or change teachers where specialist work is involved.

As children move through the school we expect that they will work with increasing independence and self-motivation. High standards are asked for and we endeavour to ensure that all children do their very best with every task that is set. Differentiation is an important part of our planning as we try to move the faster learners on at an appropriate speed but also support the child who is finding things more difficult.

Teaching methods are flexible in order to accommodate the variety of situations that occur in primary education. Throughout a typical week your child may experience whole class, small group and individual teaching.

CURRICULUM

The Foundation Stage, introduced from September 2000, is a stage of education for children to the end of the foundation year. It is a distinct stage and important both in its own right and in preparing children for later schooling. Early learning goals provide six areas of learning that lay a secure basis for children's future learning.

The Curriculum for KS1 and KS2

All children study four 'core’ subjects: English, Mathematics, Science and Information & Communications Technology (ICT), and seven 'foundation’ subjects: Personal, Social and Health Education, History, Geography, Music, Art, Design & Technology and Physical Education. As a Church School the teaching of Religious Education – although not classed as a core subject by the Government, is treated with importance by the school and is taught in accordance with the customs and practice of the Church of England.
