| ABOUT US
St Peter's is a Christian Community enabling pupils to develop fully their own individuality and to reach the highest possible standards for their ability. The School is run under the joint trusteeship of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth and a religious order of teachers, the De La Salle Brothers. Our Head teacher is Mr. A. McCaffrey MA.
St Peter's School consists of two sites, both in Bournemouth. The Upper School in St Catherine's Road and the Lower School in Holdenhurst Avenue. Each site has a full set of facilities and extensive playing fields. In September 2005 there were approximately 1550 pupils on the roll, including 350 in the Sixth Form.
|
| The primary purpose of the School is to give a Christian education to all its pupils. To this end it seeks
to develop and strengthen Christian faith and living in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic
Church.
The School aims, within this Christian ethos, to provide for each pupil every opportunity for personal,
academic and social development. In particular, it encourages selfrespect
and selfconfidence,
a sense
of responsibility, initiative and leadership; it strives to guide each pupil to the highest academic
achievements of which he or she is capable; it endeavours to inspire a spirit of service to the family, the
Church, the community and society at large.
The School wants its pupils to take their place in society as mature and wellbalanced
young people,
able to serve and to lead. The School recognises that it can achieve its aims only in close partnership
with the Parents, who are the first and foremost educators of the child. |
| The School has two handsome sites, each with excellent facilities and surrounded by ample playing
fields. In addition to the provision of libraries, science laboratories, workshops, art and craft rooms and
subject specialist rooms on both sites, there is a Sports Hall and a large Theatre at Southbourne, and a
fine Hall and Gymnasium at Iford. A new Dance Studio has recently been built at Southbourne and a
new Drama Studio at Iford.
There is a School Chapel at Southbourne and an Oratory at Iford. |
| Through the curriculum we seek to promote the growth of the whole person by encouraging the
spiritual, intellectual, personal and social, physical development of each child.
In particular we aim, as part of a lifelong process and in an atmosphere of tolerance and freedom, to
educate our pupils to maturity in faith through Christian instruction and the acquisition of Christian
values and convictions, as well as moral and social attitudes.
Secular subjects are integrated into a broad and balanced curriculum designed to equip each pupil
with the knowledge, values, attitudes and skills needed to further his or her education and
eventually to participate fully and constructively in society.
Every pupil will be challenged to seek
excellence by always aiming at the highest standards of which he or she is capable. |
