Welcome to bananas! We are a small, friendly organisation providing sessional day care for children in the Broughton area. We operate from purpose-built premises attached to Broughton Primary School and cater for children between the ages of 3 and 14 years. 3-5 year-olds attend bananas pre-school which, in partnership with Scottish Borders Council, delivers the pre-school curriculum within a playgroup setting.
Bananas after-school is our after-school club which is open to 5-14 year-olds (P1 to S2) attending either Broughton Primary School or one of the two secondary schools in the area.
We are a parent-run organisation - as a parent, guardian or carer of children attending bananas, you automatically become a member of the organisation. The management committee is elected each year from amongst the membership.
Our meetings are open to all members, whether regular committee meetings or termly open meetings. We want the best for our children and we put a lot of work into making sure that the care we provide is safe, supporting, stimulating, educative and, above all, fun. We hope you'll join us in "going bananas"!
We're very proud of our achievements - bananas has evolved from the growth and development of Broughton Playgroup which first opened its doors over 30 years ago. We participate in both the Scottish Pre-School Play Association (SPPA) and the Scottish Out of School Care Network (SOSCN) quality assurance schemes and have regular inspections from the appropriate regulatory authorities (Care Commission, HM Inspectors of Schools). All our staff undertake relevant training courses and share our desire to provide best quality care.
