| ABOUT US
Larkhall Academy is a non-denominational school admitting both boys and girls from first year to sixth year: it caters for approximately 1150 pupils but had a capacity for 1780, when it was built 25 years ago.
In the school grounds are, football and hockey pitches. The school uses the Robert Smillie stadium for football and the school sports day, we make great use of the nearby Leisure Centre for swimming, badminton, volleyball, basketball, football and tennis.

| We want our pupils to thrive in Larkhall Academy so that they may:
- live and work happily and safely,
learn to live in harmony and mutual respect with other students and staff,
- develop knowledge and understanding of themselves and of the social and
physical environment in which they live,
- acquire a wide range of skills,
- develop positive attitudes and values,
- develop an ability to cope with the demands of society.
|
| The Academy works very closely with its 9 partner primaries to provide coherent learning and teaching between the primary and secondary stages. Together, we work on a common Development Plan which draws on the good practice among the schools recently visited and commended by Her Majesty's Inspectors. For example, all of the Academy's partner primaries teach 3 agreed Science themes, to ensure a common experience which the Academy's science departments develop when the youngsters join us in First Year. Well developed "bridging" work links pupils' learning in ICT and English language from primary to secondary. The technical, Geography, Modern Languages, Music, Drama, R.E and P.E departments have all developed links with P7 Class work to ensure continuity for the youngsters' learning experiences.
In first year, all pupils follow the same course in all subjects.
In general, S2 pupils will all take the same subjects and will follow the same course in each subject, each class will contain pupils from the whole range of academic ability. In addition all S2 pupils will be given the opportunity to take a second foreign language, but second-foreign-language classes will run only if viable numbers can be obtained.
Parents' Evening is held in March for parents of second year pupils. They may consult subject teachers and guidance teachers and careers officers as to the combination of subjects their children should study during the next two sessions at this point.
