ABOUT US

Our school is a caring and supportive community where children (and staff) are encouraged to do their best in all areas of school life. We actively promote the principle of equal opportunities and will challenge and discourage prejudice and discrimination of any kind.

AIMS

  • To create a happy atmosphere, where children develop good relationships and a positive attitude towards learning, and staff and parents work in partnership.
  • To have high expectations of our children, being aware of individual differences and abilities.
  • To deliver the National Curriculum in such a way as to allow all children equal access to learning experiences.
  • To help the child towards independent learning, by encouraging questioning, discussion and investigation.
  • To cater for the child’s spiritual, moral, emotional and physical needs, and to enrich their aesthetic awareness.
  • To prepare children for life in our multi-cultural society, being aware of cultural, racial, linguistic and religious backgrounds.
  • To develop children’s self esteem and positive self image.

CURRICULUM

During the early years in school, your child will be developing his or her basic learning skills in an informal setting. As they progress through the school, they will begin to tackle more formal tasks and acquire a greater body of knowledge. For most of the day, older children will be working on the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.

The foundation subjects of History, Geography, Music, Technology and Art will also be taught, often through topic work.

In addition to providing the basic curriculum, we also include cross curricular elements in our work. These include Health Education, Environmental Education, Economic and Industrial Education, Citizenship and World perspective.

Our curriculum is constantly reviewed alongside the National Curriculum, in order to provide continuity and progression at each stage. We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, which is relevant to our children. All our work is carefully planned and differentiated to meet the needs of individual children.

All our policy statements take account of Equal Opportunities, anti racist and multi-cultural education.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

We offer a regular programme of after school clubs for children in Years 3-6. These include computers, a range of sports, art and pottery. Some clubs are led by school staff and some clubs are led by professional coaches and artists
