ABOUT US

The school has a long history. Originally built as an Open Air School in 1926, it has changed and grown over the years to become the large, two form entry community primary school we are today, accommodating about 400 children aged between 4 and 11. Our two main buildings illustrate the differences in design the years have brought with them, and the playing spaces which surround them have been developed to cater for the many needs of our children. Our playing field is situated at the top of Devonshire Road and provides a large open space on which many sporting activities can take place.

AIMS

  • To value all our children's achievements in order to build pride in work well done and boost self-esteem.
  • To provide a wide range of stimulating activities and experiences that enrich our delivery of the National Curriculum enabling our children to become numerate, literate and aware of technological capabilities.
  • To provide opportunities for all children who so wish, to take part in a range of out of school activities.
  • To encourage children to become independent, whilst learning to form co-operative relationships.
  • To develop in our children a sense of community, caring for each other and able to make choices based on the knowledge of what is right and wrong.

ORGANISATION OF THE SCHOOL

The school is usually organised into an early years unit plus 12 classes yea*; 1^to 6 consi^ng of two parallel classes for each year group. The maximum number of children m each class in our Reception Unit, Years 1,2, 3,4, 5 and 6 is 30.

Your child will join the Reception class at the beginning of the school year in which he or she will become five years old.

Following his/her year in Reception, your child will move through Years 1 to 6. Each year group forming two classes. Year 6 is the final year of Primary Education, during which you will be invited to express your preference for the Secondary School you would like your child to attend.

CURRICULUM

The main (core) subjects are English, Maths, Science, ICT and R.E. The other (foundation) subjects are Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music and P.E.
