ABOUT US

Hindley Community High School - Arts College is an oversubscribed 11-16 comprehensive school with 941 pupils on roll. We are the only high school in Hindley.

The school was established in 1967 and is housed in several buildings. There is also access to an attached Leisure Centre and there are some 20 acres of playing fields. Sure Start is also on our site in brand new purpose built accommodation.

MISSION STATEMENT

  • To achieve Excellence in all that we offer and do, by focusing on teaching and learning, life long learning, resources, staff and their development and use of data and standards.
  • To ensure a Relevant curriculum, environment and educational experience for each individual, by emphasising independent learning, appropriate course, ICT, the Arts, internationalism, business and industry and key skills.
  • To ensure Access to dreams, aspirations and expectations, by focusing on literacy, numeracy, KS2-3 and post 16 transfer, partnership, inclusion, collaboration, underachievement, able pupils, appropriate teaching and learning styles and a supportive pastoral system.

CURRICULUM

When pupils join us in Year 7 they are placed in ability sets for Math and English, based on information from Key Stage 2. Grouping for other subjects varies. Art, Music and Drama are taught in registration forms.

Performance reviews take place regularly. Subjects are taught according to National Curriculum guidelines with pupils following a common course in Key Stage 3.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)

Pupils study Art, Design Technology, Drama, English, French, Geography, History, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Maths, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education, Science, Spanish (taken by some pupils in Year 8 and 9).

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

All pupils study English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science (Single Award), ICT, Religious Education and Physical Education. In response to Government changes the options system is becoming increasingly flexible. Pupils can choose four subjects from a range available in Visual and Expressive Arts, Technology, Modern Foreign Languages, Humanities, PE and ICT. All pupils take one of the Visual arts options. This reflects our Specialist Arts College status. We also offer vocationally related courses.
