ABOUT US

St James' - a school with a vision that every child will reach their full potential within a caring Christian Community.

St James' was founded in 1770 and moved to its present site in 1977.

St James’ has served this neighbourhood for over two centuries and it is our intention that in the years ahead, we shall build on our reputation to provide excellence provision for all our children. It is our vision that children who come to St James’ will look back and feel that we gave them a foundation of faith on which to build their learning and the confidence to face the challenges of a fast-changing future.

AIMS

  • To create a positive ethos, which reflects a commitment to high achievement, where good progress is made in relation to prior attainment and where parents and school together create and maintain an effective partnership.
  • To effectively promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepare them for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life.
  • To implement the National Curriculum and Foundation Stage to meet individual learning needs, through our own distinctive character and Christian family ethos, fostering in each: joy, love, respect and creativity throughout life.

PRE-SCHOOL

St James’ Pre School is registered with Lancashire County Council Social Services, DfES, OFSTED and is a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA). The group is run by the Governors and meets in the Parish Room within the school campus. They can take up to fifteen children in each session. Their aim is to provide for the pre-school needs of the children in a relaxed yet caring environment. They aim to provide for the social, emotional, and physical development of young children through a wide range of play and slightly more formal activities. Mrs D Gillibrand is the Pre-School leader. There is close liaison between School and Pre-School throughout the year, developing together the Foundation Stage of Education.

CURRICULUM

Each child who attends St James’ will cover a broad, balanced, sequential curriculum encompassing all areas specified in the National Curriculum regardless of their ability, ethnic background or social origin. The school provides access to Interactive Whiteboards to help ensure our curriculum meet the learning styles of all children.
