ABOUT US

Little Lever School is an 11 to 16 mixed comprehensive specialist language college situated in a modern and well maintained building. Children are admitted without reference to ability and aptitude, and it has no affiliation to any religious denomination.

Little Lever School is situated four miles from the centre of Bolton and close to the boundary of Bury Metropolitan Borough. It is increasing in popularity and draws its children from more than thirty primary schools over a wide area which includes both Bolton and Bury.

AIMS

  • provide a caring, orderly, purposeful, supportive and technological environment in which pupils can reach the highest level in personal, social, moral, emotional and academic standards.
  • enable pupils to develop self awareness, self esteem and self discipline.
  • help and encourage pupils to evaluate and develop personal qualities, knowledge and skills which will enable them to become confident members of society, sensitive to the needs of others.
  • prepare pupils to make informed choices, so that they can meet challenges and grasp opportunities which they will encounter in the world beyond school.
  • develop in pupils respect and tolerance for the beliefs and cultures of others in our socially and racially diverse society.

SPECIALIST STATUS

As a Specialist Language College we aim to

  • enrich and widen learning opportunities for all pupils so that they achieve their maximum potential in modern languages.
  • extend the international, cultural and language awareness of pupils and develop an international ethos across the school.
  • provide pupils with the linguistic and technological expertise and skills to persue careers in the twenty-first century.
  • share expertise and facilities in modern languages and information and communication technology with partner primary and secondary schools, and sixth form colleges.
  • collaberate with post-16 establishments to ensure continuity and progression for advanced students and to provide others in the local community with the opportunity to study modern languages as part of their life long learning.
  • build on links with the wider community which includes local, national and overseas businesses, overseas educational establishments and teacher training agencies.

EDUCATION

The curriculum provided at Little Lever School fulfils national curriculum requirements. Subjects are grouped together according to allied interests into the departments listed to the left.

The curriculum provides a wide range of learning opportunities...There is a positive commitment to keep it broad and balanced. Provision for modern languages is excellent. Heads of department are responsible for regulating the teaching/learning programmes provided within these areas of study. Pupils have seperate lessons in citizenship/personal, social and health education and religious education.

The school adopts the strategy of cross-circular approaches for citizenship/personal, social and health education, sex education, language, vocational guidance, enterprise education and information and communication technology.

Teaching methods, which combine theoretical and practical approaches, are supplemented by field studies, visits, visiting speakers, library facilties, information and communication facilities, television programmes, CD ROMs, other educational software and worksheets produced in our resources unit.
