ABOUT US

Our Lady’s Catholic High School has been designated by the DfES as a Specialist School in Mathematics and Computing. We are proud of our specialist status, but we are first and foremost a Catholic school. The development of the whole person, rooted in our Catholic faith, is at the heart of all that we do; everything else flows from this.

We have exceptionally high expectations of our pupils because we recognise that each individual child has a unique God-given potential.

ACADEMIC

At the start of each academic year we set challenging individual targets for pupils to achieve in each subject. Progress towards these targets and current levels of attainment are monitored carefully and reported to parents each term. There is a continuous focus on progress and we make sure that pupils and parents are always clear about the next steps to taken.

As well as experiencing a curriculum that is enriched by our specialist status in mathematics and computing, pupils at Our Lady’s are fortunate in being able to study up to three languages, French, Spanish and German; and, where appropriate, three separate sciences, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, to G.C.S.E. level. At the end of Year 9 all pupils are able to choose from an exceptionally wide range of over twenty five courses, including both academic and vocational options.

ORGANISATION

Pupils are placed in one of six tutor groups, wherever possible with their friends from primary school. Form tutors, together with the Learning Manager for Year 7, will provide support and guidance on a daily basis to ensure that the transition is smooth and free from anxiety. As pupils enter Year 8 a new team of tutors, supported by a new Learning Manager, will guide pupils through their remaining time at Our Lady’s, ensuring that needs are always met, and that there is continuity of care and guidance.

BEYOND CLASSROOM

Life beyond the classroom can also have a major bearing on a child’s experience of secondary school. We are proud of the fact that in all aspects of life beyond the classroom, our pupils consistently excel.

Our pupils regularly take part in national mathematics competitions. In recent years our successes in these highly competitive events have placed Our Lady’s in the top 1% of schools in the United Kingdom.

We have an enviable reputation for outstanding sporting success. Our most recent achievements include: Year 8 and Year 9 boys Lancashire Football Champions; Year 11 Preston Netball champions;

Preston Cross-Country Champions; Preston Schools Athletics Champions; Year 7 girls Preston, Lancashire and North West five-a-side Football Champions; and Year 7, 8 and 9 Preston Schools Cricket Champions.
