ABOUT US

At Our Lady’s School we are committed to the government’s Every Child Matters agenda. We are committed to maximising opportunity and minimising risk. Children and young people have told the government that five outcomes are key to well-being in childhood and later life:

  • Being healthy
  • Staying safe
  • Enjoying and achieving
  • Making a positive contribution
  • Achieving economic well-being
Our ambition is to improve those outcomes for all children and to narrow the gap in outcomes between those who do well and those who do not.

AIMS

  • To make prayer, worship and liturgy real educational experiences and to contribute successfully to the development of each individual in the school community;
  • To create a strong link between home, parish and school which prepares the child for life in the wider community;
  • To ensure that the child’s experience of relationships within school has a significant influence on their understanding of relationships;
  • To ensure that the curriculum encourages children to grow in understanding and acquire skills, attitudes and values;
  • To show concern for all staff, parents and pupils;
  • To develop the whole child as an individual.

CLUBS

Extra curricular activities take place at lunch times and after school.

Activities vary each half term and involve different age groups. All activities are supervised by a member of teaching staff.

Extensive use is made of St. Joseph’s High School and Sports College, St. John Fisher High School, Wigan Athletic FC, Wigan RLFC and Aspull RUFC.

Music tuition for Guitar, Violin and Keyboard has also been available from visiting teachers. An amount is paid by the parents of a pupil receiving music tuition (currently £4.00 per lesson).

Educational visits are arranged for classes during the year. The children from upper Key Stage 2 are given the opportunity to visit one of Wigan’s Outdoor Educational Centres in the Lake District, normally for a period of five days.

Members of staff ensure supervision of children from 8.55am until 3.35pm or until the completion of an extra-curricular activity.
