ACADEMIC

Our aim is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, and to teach every girl in order to fulfil her potential.

At present when girls enter school they are divided into five groups and they remain in these tutor groups for three years for Citizenship and registration. In years 10 and 11 these groups are reviewed to allow for more individual pastoral guidance.

In Year 7 the girls are taught in their tutor groups for all lessons, with the exception of Mathematics, Science, English, where they are taught in ability sets from the Spring Term onwards. In Years 8 & 9 the setting policy is in the hands of the Heads of Department and this allows girls to be placed in the group best suited to their individual needs in each subject. Girls follow an identical curriculum and all girls are prepared for G.C.S.E examinations.

Specialist help is given to girls with learning difficulties: the Learning Support Co-ordinators working with small groups or individuals, either within the mainstream class lesson, or on short-term withdrawal basis.
