Research at UCE Birmingham
Most research at UCE Birmingham is near market and applied. In some disciplines it has a particular emphasis on wealth creation and technology transfer. In others, the emphasis is on working with public sector bodies to develop the social infrastructure and improve quality of life. Many research projects are multi-disciplinary and draw on expertise from members of staff across the University as well as excellent links with industry, commerce and the professions.
UCE Birmingham has five university-funded Centres of Research Excellence, which are the main focal points for research activities. However, multi-disciplinary approaches are encouraged across the University for development of successful partnerships at regional, national, European and global levels.
In addition to RAE-active researchers, the University supports all research-active staff whose research enhances the University’s profile with business and the community. We actively encourage the creation of sustainable networks with other organisations that will enhance our reputation as a partner of choice in research and innovation.
Research and scholarship are essential for the support of academic programmes, and the support of teaching and learning is a prime consideration in carrying out research.
More detailed information about our research priorities and activities can be found via Faculty and Research Centre web pages.
