Dear Parents and Friends

I am pleased to introduce you to Putteridge High School and Community College.

The school is a community of over 1,100 pupils and 100 adults working together to provide high quality and varied educational opportunities for all. The school is an ideal size to offer the full range of subjects at a suitable pace for any pupil by well qualified and experienced staff, and at the same time knowing and caring for each individual girl and boy. We also welcome over forty pupils with physical or visual impairment to our school.

Staff and pupils together are proud of the reputation which the school has achieved. We aim always to encourage our pupils to achieve their maximum potential and we take pride in all forms of achievement.

The school community is also enriched during the day and evenings by the presence of a playgroup, a club for senior citizens, a youth club, and extensive recreational facilities.

If you would like to find out more, I hope you will contact us. We would be pleased to talk to you or arrange a visit. You would be most welcome.

Ski Trip Austria Christmas 2006

Despite the late change of venue from Andorra to Zell am See in Austria, the Ski-Trip was, yet again, a tremendous success. The ski conditions were excellent, with a 40cm snow fall on the first night in the resort, making for superb snow conditions on the slopes. The accommodation at the Gasthof Lampenhausl was luxurious, set high in the Kaprun valley.

We enjoyed an evening in Zell-am-See at the Ice Hockey, with Zell-am-See winning a close match 9-8.

A total of forty students and four staff skied for five days and enjoyed the hospitality of the people of Austria and in particular the staff at the Gasthof Lampenhausl.

All students were a credit to themselves, their families and Putteridge High School. Plans are well underway for the next trip, back to Andorra in 2008.

We are pleased to announce the launch of our campaign to achieve Specialist Status in Mathematics and Computing.

Our success depends on:

·

Producing a 4 year plan showing how we will achieve improvement in our specialism, both in school and the local community.

·

Raising unconditional one-off sponsorship of £50 000.

A successful bid will win Government funding of:

·

A further £100 000 to be spent on a capital project totalling £150 000

·

£129 000 per year for 4 years

So, raising sponsorship of £50 000 will result in a return of around £600 000 from the Government. This could fund:

·

1200 new PCs, or

·

300 interactive whiteboards, or

·

30 class sets of laptop computers, as well as

·

Support for our Primary School partners, and

·

Additional staff, support, courses and more …

Achieving Specialist status will have a major impact because:

Specialist schools typically achieve GCSE performance around 20% higher than other similar comprehensive schools and Specialist schools make a positive contribution to their partner primary schools and the local community

How can you help?

To succeed we must raise £50 000. Perhaps you know of a company that is looking to develop community links, have expertise in raising money, community contacts or could provide sponsorship yourself. If so please let us know so that we can make contact.

You can contact us by phone, email, post or through our website.
