New Building Works

New Building Project Update 4th June 2007
We are still very close to schedule and have already started some preliminary work. Major works will commence at the start of the summer holidays and in no time at all the school will be unrecognisable. Much careful planning is taking place to ensure that the school will continue to operate as successfully as normal throughout the project. In September 2008 all the new buildings will be completed and we will finish moving into truly fantastic state of the art buildings.

The School has just entered a new phase in it’s history.  This phase consists of the redevelopment of a large part of the school and the addition of 24 new classrooms, faculty offices, administrative areas and a much improved 6th form area.

The school will also further develop it’s adult and community links and Physical Education capability with the addition of a Dance Studio and Multipurpose Gym extended onto the existing sports hall.

Plans were submitted to the local authority on January 22nd and work is expected to start on site with the construction of the 2 story classroom block beginning as early as May 2007.    The main entrance to the school will feature as a focal point as visitors approach the school up the new pedestrian frontage to the Adult & Community Learning building.  This first sketch drawing provided by the architect and approved by the school governors shows how the new reception and corner of the building will look.

The existing school hall will be made bigger and fit behind the reception building.  The ceiling of the hall will be opened up and the dinning area in the cafeteria will be extended to about three times it’s size with a spacious and light seating arrangement.   This will lead also to an open courtyard which could be used for outdoor dining in warm weather. school 5.bmp

Two additional Science labs will be built in the area of the existing staff room which will be relocated nearby.

Other refurbishment works will take place over other parts of the school to raise the overall standard of accommodation in line with a forward thinking Specialist College that Slough & Eton has become.

As the work develops this site will display photographic images of key stages of the development and include student and staff comments on the progress between Feb 2007 and September 2008 when the new school will open for business.

Adult Learning Centre

The adult and community learning centre on the school site has been open since January 2004 and more than 200 adults join one or more of our courses each term.  Most of our courses are free and we try to provide free crèche places so that your children (aged 1-4 years) are well looked after by professional staff while you are learning.

Parents and relatives of Slough and Eton students are particularly welcome!

If you have not been along to one of our courses yet, have a look at our programme and see if we can tempt you!  If you don’t see what you want come and talk to us.

We offer a wide variety of daytime and evening courses in for example Hair and Beauty, Clothes Making, ICT, English, Indian Head Massage, Yoga, Flower Arranging and Art and Design and Business courses.

Enrolment for our 5-10 week courses is usually early in September, early in January and end of April / beginning of May.  Crèche places need to be booked in advance.
