Information at Cameley School

Cameley Primary School

Cameley Primary School can be found in the village of Temple Cloud on the A37 between Bristol and Wells. The school moved in January 1994 from a Victorian building on the main road to the current site. The building was designed for 120 children and we have five classrooms with an outside area for the reception class to use in school time. We have a generous hall and attractive grass and hard play areas surrounding the school. Thereis an ICT suite, which is used constantly. We recently developed a conservation area in the school grounds which contains a pond.The new Gazebo provides a shady quiet area at playtime and for stories in the summer.

"To develop positive participants for the world community". We promote high achievement in all areas of human potential and prepare children to embrace positively the challenge of constant change.

Standards of Achievement
1. Achievement in the core subjects for all children is commensurate with their potential and in some cases exceeds expectations.
2.Pupils use appropriate ICT skills in all curriculum areas.

3. All pupils have well-developed emotional intelligence, have high self-belief and the confidence to stand up for what is right.
4. All pupils have a good awareness of the wider world and their responsibilities as global citizens.

Home School Partnership and Agreement

Home and school are two important influences on a young child's life. We aim to maintain harmony and continuity between home and school as we work together in partnership, sharing achievements and concerns.
At the beginning of the academic year parents are invited to a class meeting to meet the staff and other parents.
Pre-school children are invited to at least 2 sessions alongside our current Reception children. Parent consultation evenings are held three times a year.
Homework and reading are important and need support from home and school. An agreement is sent home which states the responsibilities which we believe we should all be taking (children, parents and school) to work together towards creating an effective, hardworking, happy school.

 

 

Friends of Cameley

Mrs K Allen is the Chair of the Friends of Cameley Committee, an enthusiastic band of volunteers. The friends work very hard to support the work that we do in school. They provide invaluable help with raising money. Last year the money was used to help pay for building work that resulted in a new classroom! Thank you very much!

 

 

Governing Body

Hattie Ajderain is the Chair of the Governors. She is supported by a dedicated team including Mr Lodite (Vice-Chair) and Mr Cook.
The purpose of the Governing body is:
1. To help the school set high standards by planning for the school's future, and setting targets for school improvement.
2. To keep the pressure up on school improvement.
3. To be a true friend to the school, in good and bad times, offering the school its support and advice.
4. To help the school to be responsive to the needs of parents and the community and make the school more accountable to the public for what it does.

 

 

The Curriculum

We offer a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experience of later life. We teach the core subjects, foundation subjects and Religious Education. We have been awarded the Quality Mark for Basic Skills.

We teach skills that the children can use across the curriculum such as problem solving and study skills, and we encourage awareness of themes that cross subject boundaries such as health, citizenship and environmental issues.

We believe it is really important to offer a broad and balanced curriculum to develop all areas of children's potential. Thus we work hard to promote the arts at school. We have an Arts Week each year where children celebrate their musical and artistic skills together. In the summer term year six produce a play for the rest of the school and we have a celebratory production at Christmas. Our children also take part in a huge range of sporting activities.

Last year we worked on the National Healthy Schools Award, when we developed our playground play, established regular circle time in every class and also worked on our conservation area and pond.

 

 

 

Extra-curricular activities

At Cameley we offer a range of activities including ICT club, Art club, Dance and Drama,Gymnastics and Music , Netball and Football . These clubs function at lunchtimes or after school and are supervised by teachers. We are lucky to have a lot of parental support.

 

 

School Council

We have a School Council, which meets fortnightly, for the children to discuss issues aboout school life which concern them. Each class elects 2 representatives who bring forward to the Council the concerns of their class. The whole school elects a chair and a secretary for the Council, following election speeches, from the Year 6 children.

 

 

Special Educational Needs

At Cameley we provide individual programmes for children who have Special Educational Needs. The role of parents as equal partners is something we value and there is close involvement in working through the individual programmes and setting realistic targets to foster a sense of achievement for the child, parents and teacher.

 

 

Discipline

We take a positive approach to discipline in our school. We believe that self-discipline is the most effective kind of discipline and in this, seek close partnership with parents. We openly praise and thank children who show their respect for those around them by being courteous and helpful.
Our class and school rules are based in a shared philosophy of self-respect and respect for others.

 

 

Investors in People

Our school attained the Investors in People Standard in Spring 2005. The process we worked through required us to look at whole school strategic planning and planning for staff development, so that all these processes tie in with our vision for the school and the targets for pupil achievement which we have agreed together.

 

 

Learning French at Cameley

Every Thursday all our classes have lessons in French. We really enjoy them, and we love going home to teach our families what we have learned.

 

 

Thinking Skills at Cameley

We have always been good at thinking at Cameley, but since our teachers did a course on ALPS (Accelerated Learning in the Primary School) we have been even better. We do brain gym, to exercise our brains, and we make concept maps to show our thinking, as well as lots of other things.

 

 

Building learning Power

This is a new collaborative initiative betweem Chew Valley Secondary School and a cluster of feeder primary schools. We are all ,children and teachers exploring how we vlearn and trying to make the best use of this.|We all learn through a mixture of Reciprocity, Resiliance, Resourcefulness and Reflectiveness, the trick is to work out your own mixture and build on it.

At Cameley we currently have two classes in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 and three in Key Stage 2.
In Class 1 there are Reception and Year 1 children.
In Class 2 there are Year 1 and Year 2 children.
In Class 3 there are Year 3 children.
In Class 4 there are Year 4 and 5 children,

OUR STAFF

The Staff at Cameley School

Mr Cook is the head teacher at Cameley Primary School. He is also Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and responsible for Staff Development, Assessment, Religious Education, PSHE and Music.
He is always sorting out problems for us and is very fair. He tries to make our school a better place for all the children and teachers.
Mrs Lodite teaches in Class 2 .She likes going for long walks. We think she is good at teaching P.E. She is responsible for PSHE.
Mrs Balli is the Literacy and Humanities co-ordinator. She teaches in Class 3. Mrs Balli is a fun and bubbly person. She can be strict, although that rarely happens. She enjoys teaching lots of subjects, especially history. Class 3 like her very much.
Mrs Daffurn teaches in class five with Mrs Cotton, where there are year six and some year five children.Mrs Daffurn enjoys teaching literacy especially poetry and is responsible for Maths in the school.
Mrs Cotton enjoys teaching art and science.
In class four there are two teachers: Mrs Tanner and Mrs Watson. Mrs Watson loves teaching science and IT and Mrs Tanner is really good at helping children with writing skills, she enjoys PE and PSHE.Mrs Watson is responsible for CDT.
Miss Clothier is the Reception class teacher. She is kind and friendly. Even the most shy children soon grow to love her. She is responsible for Science and IT in the school.
Mrs Creed and Mrs Merrick support children with Special Educational Needs in the Junior Classes.
Mrs Creed is lovely. She works hard and helps lots of people. She likes making things but hates sewing!
Mrs Merrick is a fun person to be with, she is helpful and funny and when she smiles you want to smile too. She is very intelligent and clever. She always sings around the school.
Mrs Pearce and Miss Rogers.
Mrs Pearce is the Learning Support Person in Class 1. She is very helpful with our work and is excellent at reading and making things.

Miss Rogers is the Teaching assistant in class 4, who helps with Special Educational Needs. She is a great help and is kind and friendly to us. She is good at helping people who are in difficulty.
