Headteacher's Welcome
I would like to welcome you to the Colston's Primary School website. I hope that it will tell you a little about our school's history and organisation, and provide you with background information on what happens and why.
The first thing to say is that we cannot possibly tell you in a small space all the things that you may wish to know. Please do not hesitate to drop in or telephone to enquire about anything you are unsure of or would like explained.
The school is situated in a pleasant conservation area within walking distance of the city centre, hospitals, universities and major shops. A great strength of Colston's is that our school community truly reflects the social mix, ethnic and cultural diversity of the city of Bristol.
The school came into being in 1946 and has expanded steadily with the purchasing of adjacent housing and the building of new classrooms and a school hall. There are currently 420 children on roll with two classes for each year group.
We admit children according to the policy of Bristol Education Authority. Most of our children join the school in the September after their 4th birthday and stay until it is time to transfer to secondary school at the age of 11. Parents who are thinking of their children attending Colston's Primary School are invited to contact me to arrange for a visit to look around.
We are proud our school's reputation in the area of high academic standards and excellence in the Performing and Visual Arts but we think that it is equally important that parents value the warm, friendly atmosphere of the school and the way in which each child is cared for as an individual.
We look forward to providing your child with the very best education and to working in partnership with you to enable them to reach their full potential.
New Core Values Prospectus
The school has recently completed production of a 'Core Values' Prospectus, which not only outlines what we mean by our core values of - Respect - Learning - Doing Our Best - Being Safe - Listening - Kindness - but is also fantastically illustrated with colour photographs of life in school. You can download it as a .pdf file by clicking on the link below.
