Here are some of the ways we work within the community

Southbank-Bristol Arts Trail

For several years, Holy Cross has been an exhibition space for the popular Southville Arts Trail. We exhibit items from local schools, including our own work. This year the 'arts trail' will be held on Saturday, 20th and Sunday, 21st May. Our school will be a venue for Ashton gate and Parson Street Primary, Ashton Park Secondary and of course our own children's work.

Holy Cross RC Church

Our parish family regularly celebrate Mass with us on Holy Days and other special occasions. Some of our older pupils make their First Holy Communion at the Church during May. Fr. Frank our parish priest visits us several times during the week.

Bristol City FC Carol Service

Our school choir has been invited on several occasions to perform at the BCFC Carol service. This is a fantastic event and the children have the opportunity to share a mince pie with their favourite team!

Community Garden

Some of our pupils had the opportunity to help brighten the community by making mosaic paving slabs to decorate a garden outside on the road near to the school.

Fundraising!

A popular pastime for pupils and staff alike! Our school is always prepared to dress up for charity. Recent fundraising includes: RND'05, Children in Need, Banardo's, training fund for African nurses and the Poppy Appeal.

Pupil Achievements

Holy Cross pupils have represented their school in many competitions and events. Mr. Newport is regularly handing out trophies and certificates for out of school interests and pursuits! Recent successes include a KS2 Tag Rugby competition. We are proud of all the achievements of our pupils, which we celebrate during our Friday 'Celebration Assembly' at 2.50.

Celebrating with our diocese

We are part of the Catholic diocese of Clifton which comprises of the counties of Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire, part of Dorset, the former county of Avon and the City of Bristol. Our Year Six pupils celebrate their time in our school at a special Mass at the Cathedral during June. Staff are also invited to celebrate their dedication to Catholic Education at a Mass during the Autumn. We are always looking to work closer with our fellow Catholic schools as well as our partner schools in the Ashton/Bedminster area.

Meeting the Police

Children in both key stages had the opportunity to meet officers from the Avon and Somerset Constabulary. The officers talked about several important matters of safety in the community with the children. After the talk we were all able to have our finger prints taken and try out the police van. A similar visit took place for the older pupils.
