| AIMS
Torwood House School aims to provide its pupils with a happy, stimulating and caring environment. We recognise and uphold the widely accepted belief that the early years of a childs life are the most important of all.
Our staff are committed to giving each and every one of our pupils the right to both excellence of learning experiences and the highest quality of care.
We provide our children with a planned and balanced programme for learning which extends individual ability at the appropriate developmental stage. This enables each child to fulfil his/her potential both in personal and intellectual growth.
School has a huge influence upon a childs life.
At Torwood House School children are recognised as individuals from the very start. The unique nature of each child - their strengths and talents, their cultural backgrounds and their differences are respected, upheld and celebrated.
We believe that children develop most harmoniously in an environment where they are given opportunity support and valued as individuals; where they encounter stimulating and challenging experiences through which they are guided to the most beneficial of outcomes. |
| Torwood Lodge Nursery is located within the same building as Torwood House School and provides babies from 6 weeks to 2 years with a safe, secure environment in which to grow and develop.
Each baby will be introduced to a member of our staff who will then be responsible for your baby's well being and daily routine. This system helps parents to remain fully informed about their own baby\'s progress and individual requirements can be accommodated.
We offer a wide range of facilities including separate rooms to allow babies to progress through the various stages of development with ease. Our qualified Nursery Nurses are caring and experienced giving you peace of mind to be able to return to work with confidence.

The Nursery Curriculum is based on the Schools Curriculum and Assessment Authorities Learning Goals For Children's Learning on Entering Compulsory Education.
The Desirable Outcomes are goals for learning for children by the time they enter compulsory education, They emphasise early literacy, numeracy and the development of personal and social skills and contribute to children\'s knowledge, understanding and skills in other areas. Presented as six areas of learning they provide a foundation for later achievement. The 1999 OFSTED report states that,
the programme provided by Torwood House is broad, balanced and relevant. It ensures that all children exceed the desirable learning outcomes in the six areas of leaning by the time they are five years old.
Torwood House Nursery Department ensures that the six areas of nursery experience, i.e. Personal and Social Development, Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development are delivered in an attractive and accessible form based on termly themes and projects.

Torwood House School is able to provide not only a stimulating and varied syllabus based on The National Curriculum requirements, but also one which gives greater breadth and depth to our pupils with modern languages, drama, dance, theatre and musical instrument tuition to name only some of the choices available. It is important to note that pupils will increasingly be taught by our highly skilled specialist teachers as they progress through Key Stage 1 into Key Stage 2 whilst maintaining the security and familiarity of their own form teacher for these crucially important years in their academic lives. Small class sizes, 16 is a typical number, ensure constant individual attention can be given to all pupils. Homework is in order to establish self-discipline and routine, a good foundation for individual study as pupils progress through their Junior years and prepare for their Common Entrance.
The school takes part and has been recently accredited by The Avon Curriculum and Assessment Service for the administration of Key Stage 1 assessment tasks and tests. Our pupils generally achieve above average results with many gaining Level 3 representing achievement above the nationally expected standard for most seven year olds.
We are therefore, very pleased to signal the preparation of our Key Stage 1 pupils towards equal success at Key Stage 2.
