Play to learn
Welcome to the Play to Learn Club at Waycroft Primary School that will be your child’s first experience of school. Children can attend the club for the year prior to attending nursery as long as a responsible adult accompanies them. There are 3 sessions held each week and each session can be attended by a maximum of 15 children and will last for 1½ hours: -

Play to Learn is a self-supporting group with a weekly charge of £2.50. Advance payment is required to cover 2 terms totalling approximately 12 weeks. The charge includes the cost of paint, paper, play dough and toys as well as squash, milk and fruit for the children and tea and coffee for the adults.
Various events are organised throughout the year such as parties, teddy bear’s picnic and a sponsored event to help provide new equipment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to make friends and play cooperatively with other children and learn to share toys and games. The development of speaking and listening skills is another important part of Play to Learn and the children will listen to stories and join in with simple rhymes and songs. Throughout the year they will grow in confidence and learn new skills: painting, cutting and gluing, all in a supportive environment.
To introduce your child to the alphabet we look at a ‘Letter of the Week’. The children are asked to bring an item from home which begins with that letter i.e. A for Apple. Each week they make something beginning with that letter that they can take home or have placed on the display boards within the room where Play to Learn is held.
At regular intervals throughout the year we ask for feedback as to how the sessions can be improved and what parents would like to see changed. One of the clear messages from this year was for the children to identify that they were going to school and to help with this we have produced a Play to Learn T-shirt. This was designed by one of the children and provides excellent value for money at only £4.00 per shirt and has been produced in the same colours of Waycroft Primary School (i.e. blue and yellow).
At the end of this school year (September 2006 – July 2007) I asked parents/carers to complete a feedback questionnaire and here are some of the comments given;
-
My son’s overall confidence has really improved over the time he’s been coming.
