Welcome to Bourton Meadow School___Head Teacher: Mrs Gill Race

As the Headteacher of this highly successful primary school in Buckingham, I and my excellent team of staff would like to welcome you to our website.

We hope you find the information here useful. It is designed to offer a taster of our school and to introduce you to some of the exciting things we do here.

However the only way you will experience the school truly is by arranging for a visit when I will personally show you around and answer all your questions.

What have we been studying?
We enjoyed studying our "Pets" topic, thanks to all who brought in a pet! The children loved the practical part and produced lovely drawings of these pets.

Our other topic this term has been "minibeasts". The children were very eager to take part in all activities especially our "minibeast hunts" which included finding and comparing size, colour, shape and where you might find them.

Year 4

What have we been doing?
We have had a French Market stall in the Yr 4 shared area where the children have been practising their French with Mlle Phung. We walked into Buckingham to look at the market and sketch churches. We also had a French Market Celebration at the end of July to which all the parents were invited.

What have we been studying?
We have been working on our Geography theme which compares Buckingham to Montpellier in the South of France. We are focusing on transport, markets, shops, churches and parks. We have collected data in a variety of forms and started our theme with French food tasting (the children were very open-minded and tried all of the food - olives were the least favourite with carambars the favourite).

New Boards:
We have our collaborative tram painting up, which was created using powder paints and mark making. Market stall pastel drawings are also up, we used a viewfinder to focus on colours and shapes. Horrid Henry visits Montpellier is another of our boards- the children worked together to write different adventures for Horrid Henry in Montpellier.

Pupil’s comments:
“Wish you were Here has been my favourite theme this year because of the food tasting we did. The food tasted fantastic, especially the carambars ”
By Norman 4DC

"The best part so far was doing sketches of the churches. I have learnt about what time the markets were on. I enjoyed the trip to the town to have a look a the churches."
By Lily 4DC

Year 5

What have we been doing?
We have been on our residential trip to the Isle of Wight.
(the children that did not go on this took part in an art week
with Mrs Hussey and their artwork formed a display in school.

What have we been studying?
Our theme is "Inside Out" which is all about plants (plant lifecycle, photosynthesis etc.) They are carrying out a research project to identify a mystery plant!

New Boards:
The children's work detailing parts of a plant have been on display in the classroom.

Bourton Meadow provides an outstanding education for its pupils. The parents and pupils hold their school in high regard. Their positive views are entirely justified. One parent summed up the views of many when writing, 'I think this is an outstanding school. The quality of teaching has been consistently stimulating and interesting for my child.'

HOW TO HELP US EVERYDAY

If you buy online, please have a look at this site and go via www.buy.at/bourtonmeadow lots of retailers are on this site and we get commission from every order you place. Have a look and see how good it is.

Any and all old printer cartridges can be given in at the school office for recycling and we receive cash back

Any vouchers from supermarkets and cereal packets are collected at the school office and used for equipment in school. Everything from sports to computers.

Once a year we send home blue plastic bags for recycling old clothes, linen, shoes, belts etc. They are all collected on a booked date and we get cash back for every KG sent.

For the third year we will hopefully be collecting old mobile phones for cash back, but also the children get a reward for everything they collect. This usually runs in the summer term, so get collecting at home and maybe at work

500 CLUB From as little as £2 per month you can join our school lottery and win cash prizes. We have 10 winners each month winning anything from £25 to £2. To join contact Tracy W or ask at the office for an application form.

At Bourton Meadow we have spent a lot of time thinking about the outside environment in which the children play.

The PTA has raised money over the years to help us buy some lovely things for the children to use during playtimes.

The trees and benches on the terrace were bought by the PTA to provide some shade for the children and are a good place for children and parents to sit and chat.

The willow tunnel was another of their projects again providing shade but also it is good fun as well!

The adults who supervise the children at playtimes are always looking for new games and activities for the children to play. We have a good range of games to suit all interests.
