Mr Haydn Stride, Headteacher
Longhill High School became a specialist technology college in September 2003. It received a DfES award as a most improved school in 1998 and won the schools achievement award in 2000. The school serves a wide geographical area including Rottingdean and the surrounding villages and a minority of students travel from East Brighton. It is over-subscribed.

The school provides services for the local community, technical support for primary school computers and has a joint use Leisure Centre opened in 2005.

Prospective Parents

Headteacher Geoffrey EllisThank you for your interest in Longhill High School. We are an 11-16 school of 1200 students  with a reputation within the community for high standards and academic success.

Longhill is a specialist Technology College, offering enhanced activities and equipment in Information Technology, Design Technology, Maths and Science. These new initiatives will assist Longhill in its vision of becoming a Centre of Excellence as an Information and Technology College, expanding the educational opportunities for all its students across all areas of the curriculum. Longhill aims to become the hub of a community partnership in providing a Learning Centre for the Community of Rottingdean, Woodingdean, Ovingdean and Saltdean.

This has been further enhanced with the opening of a large community Sports Hall and Fitness Centre.

I believe that these exciting developments mark the beginning of even more success for Longhill students.

We pride ourselves on our provision of quality education. This is founded on high quality relationships, leading to good teaching and learning in a well-resourced environment. We aspire to excellence in all that we do.

In preparing citizens for the 21st century, Longhill provides opportunities and challenges to enable all students to achieve their potential. In partnership, everyone is encouraged to contribute to the developing success of our school.

As a professional organisation we insist on high standards of behaviour, discipline and uniform. Our experienced and well qualified staff recognise the importance of maintaining these standards. Our programme of pastoral support provides individual targets and guidance for each student throughout their school career.

Through mutual respect and support, developed by enjoying learning together, we aim to provide quality education for the whole community.

This can only give you a flavour of the individuality of Longhill High School. If you want to know more come and see us in action.

Geoffrey Ellis BA (Oxon), MBA, FRSA

Your Mentor

Your mentor is there to help and support you. If they are unable to help you directly, they will know who you should speak to.

Woodingdean Youth Advice

Youth Workers, Donna Belinda and Helen, will be available to talk to students around the school during lunch time break on Thursdays.  They will be wearing black hoodies and ID badges.  They will be providing information, support and advice on a range of issues.  They will be informing students about the Youth Service in the areas and what is going on for young people.

Year 11 Drop-In

If you were unhappy about your Mock examination results and want to do something about it, come along to the Year 11 Drop-In after school in the Library on Mondays 3:00 – 4:30pm.

This Drop-In was designed to be a place where Year 11’s can come and listen to some music, have a drink and a biscuit and socialize, as well as offering an opportunity for an informal chat with the KS4 Learning Mentors Elaine Lambrechts and Mark Brady.

We can offer practical help and tips on how help  “Turn Around” your exam results.

All is not lost but you need to take action now if you want to make a difference to your final results.

We will also be available in A25 every Tuesday and Thursday after school for anyone wanting to catch up on coursework etc.
