Sacred Heart School is a small independent Catholic primary school and Nursery, nestling in the heart of the Sussex countryside.

We welcome boys and girls from 3-11 and with pupil numbers around 100 we have the opportunity to know each child individually, to recognise and encourage their strengths and support them in overcoming areas of difficulty.

Our pupils enjoy a high degree of academic success, regularly obtaining places at their first choice of school, including passes at 11+ and Scholarships.

Courtesy and care for each other are important values nurtured at Sacred Heart School where children play and work well together. We believe our pupils are our best advertisement.

If you would like to discover for yourself what makes Sacred Heart such a happy and successful school please contact us on 01892 783414 to arrange a visit and see the school in action.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Sacred Heart School aspires to provide an environment in which every child can achieve their potential, in a community which is inclusive, based on Christ's teachings and shared Gospel values and which affirms the spiritual ethos of the founding Notre Dame Order.

We acknowledge the unique gifts of each child and instil a strong sense of self worth by celebrating personal achievements and strengths. Leading by example we teach children to respect themselves and each other as part of God's wonderful creation.

We offer a balanced, broad curriculum that promotes the spiritual, moral, emotional and physical development of each child. We provide high quality teaching and learning based on high expectations.

We engage in partnership with parents and parish for the good of every member of the community. Worship and prayer are central to the life of the school and are embedded in the whole curriculum, thus safeguarding, supporting and strengthening the spiritual life of all.

ACADEMIC

Our leavers this year won a significant number of scholarships to secondary schools including the two top scholarships to St Leonards-Mayfield School

In addition to academic success, Year 6 pupils also achieved awards for Art, Drama and Sport to independent schools in Kent and East Sussex.

Whilst many of our pupils follow the 11+ route others chose to attend one of the excellent community colleges in the area. We endeavour to work with parents to choose a school where their child will continue to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Although we are a non-selective school, by the end of both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 our results are significantly above the national average in all three subjects assessed through SATs.

ACTIVITIES

Music clubs and activities

Music is an important part of school life and is taught by a specialist teacher. Children may sing in the church and in the school choir, and play in the school orchestra.

Private tuition can be arranged for piano, violin, flute, clarinet and guitar and pupils are entered for the Royal College of Music exams.

Every year we present a musical evening where children are encouraged  to show off their musical talents. Music is a prominent part of our Christmas and end of year productions and we have also taken our musicians out to entertain the residents of Weald Hall, a local nursing home.

Sport

Reminder: Matches for netball and football teams this week.

Also netball team to St Teresa's tournament, Saturday 6 October.

Sport is thriving at Sacred Heart School!

Boys and girls achieve a high level of skill under the excellent direction of our specialist games teacher.

From the Foundation stage, carefully planned activities enable the children to improve co-ordination and proficiency in basic skills which are transferred into games situations as they progress through the school.

We play matches regularly against other schools in the area and we enter teams in festivals and competitions locally and further afield.

Our U11 netball team has enjoyed a terrific season with an almost unbeaten record, conceding only one match!

The P.E. curriculum is extended through a varied range of lunch time and after-school clubs and activities.

ADMISSIONS

The written word is no substitute for a visit to the school and we encourage parents to make this a priority when considering a place for their child.

A visit offers you the opportunity to see the school in session on a typical day during a tour with the Head Teacher, to chat to current pupils and teachers and to judge for yourself the quality of teaching, learning and relationships within the school.

Following a visit many parents choose to bring their child to us for a 'taster day' which is an opportunity for prospective pupils to discover at first hand what life at Sacred Heart School is really like and for us to assess informally how your child will settle into the school community.

If you feel that Sacred Heart is the right school for your child, registration is the next step. Please contact the school secretary for further information.

Telephone 01892 783414 During the school holiday period and out of school hours please leave a message if the office is unmanned. This facility will be checked regularly and your call returned promptly.
