St Peter`s Community Infant & Nursery School

St. Peter’s is a small, family sized infant and nursery school for children aged 3 – 7 years.  Our admission numbers are 90 pupils in the school and a further 50 part-time places in our free nursery.  We have been proudly serving the South Portslade and neighbouring communities since 1906 and we are set in a beautiful Victorian building which is fully modernised, but which retains many of its original features. Several new buildings have been added over the last decade to provide an excellent environment for young children and their needs, including a well resourced nursery class.

Our outside area is used as an extension of
the classrooms and is continually developed to ensure excellent provision for all our children.  This outside area comprises of two playgrounds, a chequer board garden and a "Secret Garden", providing excellent opportunities for co-operative and imaginative play.

Our school council have been highly involved in decisions for recent developments to this area and we have just installed some eye-catching sails to provide shade for the children in our lower playground.

VISION STATEMENT

Our vision is to create a school community where everyone can be happy, healthy and work with zest.

By working together to promote a sense of self-worth, we will encourage self confidence and individual talents; establishing a sense of belonging and pride in our achievements.

We will provide a positive, stimulating and challenging learning environment that is safe and secure.  Our learning experiences will promote life-long learners through developing inquisitive minds, a joy of discovery and a sense of wonder.

We will respect the diversity of our community by accepting and learning from our differences.

This vision statement applies to everyone who has a role to play in the provision of education at St Peter’s Community Infant and Nursery School.

NURSERY

We offer 50 free places in our fantastic and vibrant nursery for children aged 3 - 4 years.

Session times:

Morning:       9.00 - 11.30am

Afternoon:    12.30 - 3.00pm

The nursery is going to be extended this year to provide an even bigger and better space for the children to learn and play with fantastic new resources.  While the work takes place, the nursery will continue to be open in a different classroom in the school.

The nursery staff include two highly trained teachers and an experienced Teaching Assistant and qualified Nursery Assistant.

Children are taught through a variety of planned programmes and interesting and challenging learning experiences.  Parents are actively encouraged to participate fully in nursery life, as we believe parents are essential partners in a child's education.  Our nursery is an integral part of the school and nursery children often participate in fun, whole-school events such as visits from theatre groups and the opportunity to handle live animals.

ADMISSIONS

Places for our school are allocated by the Local Education Authority (Brighton and Hove City Council).  Please click here to link to the council's website:

http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/

If you would like to register your interest in our school by putting your child's name on our list, please let us know.  This information will be passed on to the council when your child is due to start school.

Children enter the infant school in the September of the school year (September to August) in which they reach five years old.  They commence full-time school at the beginning of the term in which they turn five.

We offer a series of "Welcome Afternoons" for new parents and children in the Summer term before your child starts school, where you and your child are invited to attend talks and practical sessions to help to ensure a smooth and confident transition to school in September.

Please see the Nursery link on the left for details of admissions to the Nursery.
