Dear Parents and Guardians,

Kelvin Hall is a well-established and successful school. This is confirmed by our OFSTED inspection of October 2001, which said “the overall quality of education is good”, and by our examination results which are improving rapidly year on year.  More importantly we are confident our results will continue to improve.  Our status as a Specialist Science College means major improvement to our buildings and facilities and our determination to continue the upward trend will all ensure further success. Visitors to the school often say what a friendly place it is. This is important because only when people feel at their ease can they do their best and it is our aim to help every student achieve success. At Kelvin Hall we believe that students, parents and teachers must work closely together to bring this about. The Kelvin Hall Partnership Agreement, which is a signed declaration of the responsibilities of the school, parents and the student, is our formal commitment to working together to achieve success. The team of well-qualified and experienced staff is keen to work  to meet the individual needs of all students, and to promote each student’s confidence and success. We believe strongly in the development of a well-ordered, caring community to generate trust and a happy atmosphere: in short, the kind of environment in which learning can take place. If you should choose Kelvin Hall for your son or daughter, I know the staff will do all they can to repay your confidence in the school. We  look forward to meeting you in the near future and to begin to create a partnership aimed at achieving success for your son or daughter.

EDUCATION

ADT Accommodation

The Art Design Technology department at Kelvin Hall comprises of a suite of specialist rooms designed specifically for the teaching of our wide range of subjects. The suite consists of Three specialist Art studio’s, two specialist food technology rooms one with some industrial equipment. There are two multi purpose craft workshops one with a hot area for specialist metal work.  Other specialist rooms include ones for electronics, graphics and textiles. We are in the fortunate position to have a dedicated CAD / CAM room and suite of computers. All rooms within the Faculty except CAD /CAM and ICT suite have interactive whiteboards.

Throughout both Key Stages we offer students experiences that will enhance their abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening. In a stimulating classroom environment students are encouraged to express themselves through a wide range of enjoyable and challenging activities.

We aim to improve students’ abilities to understand and communicate with the wider world, whilst also encouraging a love for literature that will stay with them for life.

We have a suite of seven rooms including a computer room. All our rooms are equipped with an Interactive White Board and a friendly, hardworking teacher.

Mathematics Faculty

The faculty is house in the Venn Centre for Mathematics. This is a purpose built suite of 6 rooms each equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard. The faculty is well resourced and has its own set of laptops.

Scientific and basic calculators are available for students, although they are encouraged to purchase them through the Faculty.

The Faculty is staffed by four full time teachers, three part time staff and a Mathematics Curriculum Assistant.

Modern Languages Faculty

We warmly welcome you to the Webpage of the Modern Languages Faculty at Kelvin Hall School in Hull. The Faculty is composed of 4 full-time and 1 part-time member of staff who teach German, Spanish, French and Italian. We work closely with many temporary work experience personnel from abroad: This year we have assistants from Austria, France and Mexico, and several work experience students from Germany.

Our main aim is to encourage the pupils to learn languages and to awaken their interest in other cultures. We offer courses in French, German, Spanish and Italian. Furthermore there are many extra curricular activities offered to the pupils.

“Achieving Success by Working in Partnership” - This philosophy is supported by  working closely with other schools and universities both at home and abroad. There are currently several projects which enable our pupils to get to know people from other countries and learn about other cultures. To facilitate this we use web based technologies (e.g. email) and we also hope to develop the use of “SKYPE” in the near future.

All MFL language rooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards, overhead projectors, cassette recorders and CD players. Opportunities to use ICT, including the internet for research and authentic resources, are included in our schemes of work.

Science Facilities
• 7 newly refurbished science laboratories, each with an interactive whiteboard.
• 30 wireless networked laptops with datalogging equipment for science investigations.
• Science curricula in electronic format.
• 2 full-time science technicians.
