VALUES

At Dalry we value people. We value their individuality, their differences and the contribution these make to our little Clan. We want to see our Clan grow and flourish and to take strength from each other.
SCHOOL AIMS

We aim to create a school climate which strives towards continuous improvement.

We aim to create a warm, welcoming ordered learning environment which strives to meet the needs of its members and raises their self-esteem.

We aim to have an ethos where teachers can teach and pupils can learn. Where we are continually looking towards new frontiers in teaching and learning.

We aim to have a school where all staff can enjoy the benefits of a CPD scheme which gives them access to professional development.

We aim to promote a self-supporting clan which values individual diversity and the contribution this can make to the enrichment of the community as a whole.

We aim to provide a challenging academic climate which drives up our standards of education which celebrates achievement and encourages success where individuals take responsibility and a pride in their own learning.
SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

We see children as the true wealth of our nation, our community and our school. We value the partnership between home and school which puts your child, our pupil first. We believe that children deserve the very best we can all provide in order to allow them to develop to their full potential. To achieve this success, it is necessary to sustain an ethos where children can flourish in a school which values their individual needs and provides them with the tools to make a genuine success of their future lives.

INTRODUCTION / WELCOME

I would like to warmly welcome you and your child to Dalry Primary School and hope that your association with the school will be a happy and profitable one for you, your child and the school.

We aim to create a happy, caring, ordered community in which each child can achieve their full potential. I want your child to enjoy the best opportunities possible so that they not only cope but also thrive during their years with us and that they are well prepared for life beyond these walls. Central to this aim is the promotion of a caring ethos in which your child feels valued and is encouraged to develop their intellectual and social skills in a community which is friendly and secure.

In pursuit of these aims we value the effective partnership of school and home. We welcome your active involvement in the life of our little community where you can achieve the best for your child and we can achieve the best for our pupils. We look forward to getting to know you and your child and please remember that our door is always open when you call into school.

THE SCHOOL DAY

The school day begins at 8.50a.m. Please help us to help your child by remembering that. It's important that your son or daughter arrives on time so that he/she doesn't miss instructions or information about the work in his/her group. On wet or cold days its best not to arrive until a few minutes before bell time to avoid being wet or chilled.

Please also be on time when you collect your child at the end of the day.

Children often worry and become upset when they think they've been left behind. If you are unavoidably late then either arrange for a friend or family member to pick them up or telephone the school so that your child will not worry.
SCHOOL HOURS

When children start school they will come in small groups for short periods of time. This will quickly build up until they are attending for a full day. We'll let you know about these arrangements before your child starts school.

Normal school hours for the Infants in Primary 1 and 2 are:

All days except Friday -
8.50am - 12.15
1.15pm - 3.07pm

Friday only -
8.50am - 12.25

PLAYTIMES

Playtime is usually from 10.30a.m. - 10.45a.m, each day, but when our new children start they will usually have a different time for break and be gradually merged into a busy playground with our classes.

There are always Playground Supervisors, Learning Assistants, Mrs McGhie and Mr Fleming on duty that will deal with minor worries and First Aid.

On very wet days children are supervised in class where they can watch TV or play quiet board games supervised by staff.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS

While we love to see your child's favourite storybook, drawings and works of art they've made at home, please discourage them from bringing precious or valuable playthings to school. In a busy classroom it's impossible to keep track of special, expensive toys which may end up lost or broken.

AND FINALLY -

Be assured that we will take good care of your child,
our pupil,
while they are with us
and
please let us know if you or your child has any worries that we can help with.

Thank you from all the staff
We hope this booklet has been helpful and that it has answered
most of your questions about your child's first year at school

UPPER SCHOOL

SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

We see children as the true wealth of our nation, our community and our school.
We value the partnership between home and school which puts your child, our pupil first. We believe that children deserve the very best we can all provide in order to allow them to develop to their full potential. To achieve this success, it is necessary to sustain an ethos where children can flourish in a school which values their individual needs and provides them with the tools to make a genuine success of their future lives.

SCHOOL AIMS

The staff at Dalry are committed to providing a caring, securing and nurturing environment in which every child feels secure, confident and valued. We are committed to the development of a tolerant ethos in which each individual is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential emotionally, socially and intellectually. To achieve these aims the school actively promotes the partnership of school and home in order to provide a balanced educational programme.

AIMS

We aim to create a school climate which strives towards continuous improvement.

We aim to create a warm, welcoming ordered learning environment which strives to meet the needs of its members and raises their self-esteem.

We aim to have an ethos where teachers can teach and pupils can learn. Where we are continually looking towards new frontiers in teaching and learning.

We aim to have a school where all staff can enjoy the benefits of a CPD scheme which gives them access to professional development.

We aim to promote a self-supporting clan which values individual diversity and the contribution this can make to the enrichment of our community as a whole.

We aim to provide a challenging academic climate which drives up our standards of education and celebrates achievement, encourages success where individuals take responsibility and a pride in their own learning.

PERSONAL & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

In addition to the rights of children we also take very seriously their responsibilities. At Dalry we promote the idea of the Clan, the big family and encourage our children to play their part in helping the Clan. This manifests itself into creating a small army of helpers who give up their own time to help others. Some are easily recognised as playground friends or as school gardeners, or as playground patrol or perhaps helping at the doors during break.

We also have two Junior Road Safety Officers who advise the school on how to
keep ourselves safe.

Apart from these formal positions we also employ an army of other helpers in order to support our little community. Again there are so many little jobs and little helpers that space does not exist to list all their duties and successes. At Dalry we are proud of their efforts and if you are in school and catch any child being good then please bring this to the attention of the staff.

This is OUR school and we must all play our part in keeping up standards.

Likewise we are always looking for opportunities to tell children how well they are doing. We have a ?Share our Good News Wall? where we like to display news and work that we are proud of and that children are proud of. We also are great fans of ?Circle Time? and incorporate this into our school week. Circle Time allows children to share, and value others and themselves and if you would like to hear more about it pop in and share this with a class.
We value Personal and Social Development, not only because it helps the school. It supports everything that we value and is a major support in maintaining our positive school ethos or atmosphere.
At Dalry we like to celebrate success achievement and attainment

HUMAN VALUES

At Dalry we are interested in the whole child. Part of this interest is in the moral aspect of education and citizenship. We want to do our best for your child and this is why we are committed towards promoting Human Values where every week our children learn about a new aspect of this work either in class or at our weekly assemblies.
