Headteacher   Mr R. B. Collins  MSc

William Warwick Hawkins, a wealthy Colchester timber merchant who lived in Alresford Hall, built the original school in 1846.  The 'new' school was opened in 1965, sited in a pleasant rural setting.  The grounds are particularly attractive with many mature trees and open grassy spaces, providing quiet seating and picnic areas.  There is an excellent swimming pool, built and originally funded by parents.

The school comprises a flat-roofed building with hall and four class bases.  There are two additional re-locatable classrooms, each with their own toilets and an additional permanent outside classroom and a dedicated ICT Suite. There has been extensive recent work on the buildings with the provision of a fully equipped outside teaching area for the Reception class, painting of the exterior of the school new toilets for junior children and a purpose built library and group room. In addition the PTA has redecorated some of the classrooms and other areas in the school.

Meals are cooked on the premises and served in a caring, family setting.  The extensive playing field is accessible to the children on dry days and provides the school with excellent sports facilities.  There are two wet weather playgrounds.

ETHOS AND AIMS

Ethos

Alresford Primary School is a caring community where individual needs are recognised and supported. We ensure that all children are given a wide range of experiences in a safe and secure environment. Every opportunity and encouragement is given to children to enable them to achieve success and fulfil their individual potential. We work in partnership with the home and the wider community to achieve our aims.

Aims

·       To have high expectations of behaviour, attitude and personal endeavour in all areas of school life.

·       To create an open, positive and supportive atmosphere where each individual, regardless of race, age or gender is a valued member of our school.

·       To provide a challenging stimulating curriculum which is broad, balanced and appropriate to the needs of each child.

·       To provide an environment which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, social and emotional development of all pupils.

·       To develop independent learners with enquiring minds who strive to achieve the highest standards.

·       To encourage commitment from pupils, parents, teachers and governors in ensuring the success of the school.
