HOLMWOOD HOUSE PREPARATORY SCHOOL
for 400 pupils - Nursery to Year 8

Holmwood House Nursery caters for children from 6 months to 5 years. It is open not only to children who will continue their education at Holmwood House School, but also to those who intend to go on to schools elsewhere. A flexible service is offered so that children can attend during Holmwood House term time only, full time, or any number of different sessions and options throughout the year.

Ranges of activities are planned which offer the highest possible pre-school experience. Children are treated as individuals with learning tailored to meet their needs. All areas of the foundation stage curriculum are carefully planned for, ensuring that children will be confident and competent learners when they move on to school. We believe that it is vital that children are happy and secure at all times.

Mature, experienced nursery practitioners who fully appreciate and understand the importance of a safe environment, healthy food, and excellent hygiene practices care for all babies. Babies will be stimulated and well occupied, with their developmental needs met through careful individual plans.

Attendance
Holmwood House Nursery is open for 46 weeks of the year. We offer a flexible attendance, both in terms of sessions attended and weeks attended. Children may attend for the Holmwood House term time or choose to attend for any of the additional 11 weeks on offer. Children may attend for any combination of sessions, but must come at least twice per week.

The Curriculum
The curriculum is in line with Government guidelines and is tailored to provide a seamless entry to Holmwood House Early Years Department.

Environment
A well-equipped garden, a separate enclosed baby garden, and a huge safe and enclosed paddock mean that Holmwood House Nursery are able to offer children the freedom of an ‘outside classroom’.

Health and Safety
Holmwood House have a reputation for keeping their children safe and healthy. Children are taught the importance of a healthy body, encouraged to eat healthy food, and provided with home cooked meals. Processed foods and those containing too much sugar, salt and fats will be avoided.

The Team
The team at Holmwood House Nursery has been carefully selected, not only for their qualifications and experience, but also for their genuine love of children. High staff to child ratios will be constantly maintained. Continued personal development of our staff is a key part of our Human Resources policy, with staff being valued and encouraged to develop their individual careers.

ACADEMIC

The School is arranged by academic year groups which are divided into three or four classes or sets.

There is normally a maximum of 18 in each class, or 16 in a set.

In placing a child in an academic year group, we take account of both ability and age.

The system allows great flexibility and individuality so that we can provide for each child's strengths and weaknesses.

We can thus stretch each pupil without undue pressure.

The syllabus is designed to introduce every subject in a way which will both stimulate interest and give a full understanding of the basic principles involved.

All the syllabuses are in line with the National Curriculum, except where we start subjects earlier than expected - such as French at the beginning of Year One.
