Headmistress2

Thank you for taking an interest in Raphael Independent School.  Whether your son or daughter is just about to start school, or is looking for a Junior or Senior place, we offer you and your family a warm welcome to our friendly and caring community.

Raphael has come a long way since it began as Clark's College in Romford in 1935.  Building on the best of traditional values and embracing the exciting educational opportunities of the 21st century, we offer families good quality education in small class sizes.

Our multi-cultural community values good behaviour, mutual respect and co-operation, believing that each pupil is a unique individual who has the right to learn at school in a secure and structured environment.

I hope you will make an appointment to visit the school at your convenience.

AFTER SCHOOL FACILITIES

Infants and Juniors After School Care Club
Pupils are supervised by one of our teachers until 3.55pm when our After School Care Club begins.  In the Club, pupils are cared for by Mrs. Gunning here at Raphael.  They have some refreshments, play, watch television, read, chat - or even do homework.  There is a charge of £2.00 per 30 minutes for this service, which runs until 5.30pm.

Senior Homework Club
From Monday to Thursday, Senior pupils can attend our Homework Club, which runs from 4pm until 5pm.  Pupils are supervised by a member of our Management Team, and they can have access to our network of computers.

Choice time
There are extra-curricular activities on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, as described in our prospectus.

A member of our School Management Team is on duty after school daily until our last pupil leaves.

JUNIOR DEPARTMENT

Key Stage Two

The Junior Department caters for children in years 3 - 6. The curriculum is based on National guidelines for Key Stage 2, and all pupils in Year 6 take the Key Stage 2 tests each May.
The curriculum in the Junior Department offers a wide range and varied approach to subject teaching. Several subjects are taught by specialist teachers, with progress in these subjects being monitored by the class teacher. The pupils are taught in small groups for several subjects.
We place a strong emphasis on English and Maths, both of which are taught daily. Homework is set every night and the pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning.
