Saint Joseph`s Catholic Primary School

Saint Joseph's is a Catholic Primary School serving the catholic population of Harwich. There are four mixed age classes; the number of pupils on role is approximately 120. This site concentrates on the curriculum taught at Saint Joseph's and any special events that support that. A second site maintained by the Friends of St Joseph's, details fund raising activities and can be found via this link.

MISSION STATEMENT

‘In our school we all try to follow the example of St Joseph.

Loving God, we work together willingly and peacefully as brothers and sisters in our school family.

To help us to be like St Joseph:

We will pray to God, and listen to Him.

We will care about others in our school and help them as much as we can.

We will be kind, thoughtful, truthful, hardworking and friendly.

We will think of God first in everything we do.

We will show our love of God, by the way we care for all the people, animals and plants in our world.’

KEY STAGE 1

Foundation Stage

bullet In Foundation Stage we want the children to be happy, relaxed and motivated to learn.
bullet We try to foster friendships and help the children to treat adults, and each other, with respect.
bullet

The children need to be as independent as possible and to take responsibility for their own learning. We aim to support them in this.

KEY STAGE 2

Key stage two is made up of two classes: year three and four, and year five and six. These two classes both have a two year cycle of teaching and learning taken from the National Numeracy  Scheme, the National Literacy Scheme and the various study units of the QCA, eg geography, history, science etc. Information technology ( I.T.) has a growing influence on the daily teaching at St Joseph's; each class has its own interactive Smartboard and access to the internet. The children also have access to their own study support site at school, home or even at the library; just by entering E-Folio and using their personal user name they can use sites which directly support their work at St Joseph's. This learning support site is updated termly. It is even possible to 'upload' work to it and then 'download' that same work at school!

All children have regular access to wireless laptops which are dedicated to the school system. This means that any child can access their work anywhere in the school. Special security software protects the laptops and contents, ensuring that all work remains firmly under St Joseph's control.
