Welcome

On behalf of all the children, parents, staff and governors of St. Peter's School, I extend a warm welcome to you. If your child is to join us soon, we hope that this will be the beginning of a very happy time for you and your child. If you already have a child at our school we are pleased to renew our acquaintance.

We firmly acknowledge the partnership that exists between the Home, School and Parish and actively strive to develop these links because we believe that the process of educating your child is one in which we share responsibility. Our Mission Statement defines our values and vision for our Catholic identity within our community; we are a learning establishment that ensures that the requirements of the National Curriculum are met and where each child's Religious development and Faith is nurtured.

We provide regular information to you about school events and activities and there are frequent opportunities to discuss the progress your child is making at school. Our website contains a great deal of information about St. Peter's, but of there is anything you wish to know about, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I look forward to supporting you and your child during the time your child spends at our school

Mrs J. Waterfield
Headteacher

ETHOS

Our Mission

Like St. Peter, we know and love God our creator, Jesus our friend and the Holy Sprit our helper. We celebrate the joy of learning and playing together, growing as individuals and as a loving community.

Our Aims for Your Child

As a Catholic school, we aim to provide the best possible education for your child, in which the teachings of Christ inform all our efforts and are the basis upon which we treat each other.

In all that we do, we aim to develop all children's knowledge, skills, attitudes and values.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum, in all its aspects, reflects the fact that Christ is the foundation of everything in our Catholic school. The content and delivery of our curriculum aims to reveal the truth about God our Father as the Creator, Jesus the Saviour and the Holy Spirit as our guide.

Our curriculum provides opportunities in a wide range of areas of learning to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.

At St. Peter's we actively promote recognition of the uniqueness of the individual and provide opportunities for our pupils to develop as independent and responsible members of society.

Our curriculum underpins the policies relating to Equal Opportunities including Race Relations, Multicultural Education, Personal Social and Health Education, Citizenship, Special Education Needs and Inclusion.

Curriculum Organisation

There are three distinct phases to your child’s education:
  • Foundation Stage
    • Reception Class

  • Key Stage One
    • Years 1 - 2

  • Key Stage Two
    • Years 3 - 6

In the Foundation Stage we provide your child with the best start to their development and six areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional development (includes Religious Education)
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

In Key Stage One and Two the curriculum is organised around 12 areas of National Curriculum study:

  • Religious Education
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Design Technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Art and Design
  • Music
  • Physical Education<
  • P.S.H.E (Personal, Social, Health Education) and Citizenship Education.

Teachers work hard to provide a stimulating curriculum that builds on the children’s experiences, is relevant and interesting. Teachers provide a variety of curriculum approaches including the teaching of discrete curriculum units and cross curriculum themes.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Our aim in all that we do is to enable each child to achieve their full potential. All abilities are catered for within each class and carefully planned work is differentiated to meet the needs of each child. We recognise that there are children who experience difficulties with their learning and need additional support. Those children who have been identified as having Special Educational Needs are supported within the class and may receive help from outside specialists from the School’s Psychology Service of the London Borough of Havering.

We believe early identification, intervention and parental involvement is crucial to enabling each child to make progress in their learning, and as such, our regular assessment and recording procedures are a means of targeting support to those who are most in need of specific help, at the earliest opportunity. We ask parents to inform us of any pre-school Special Educational Needs and involvement with the Special Educational Needs and Psychology Service and any other outside agencies when children are allocated places at our school.
