Welcome

Head Teacher, Karen Kerridge. As Headteacher of The Appleton School, I would like to introduce you to what I believe is an exceptional School. The Appleton School has an excellent reputation at both local and national level, achieving education of the highest quality with outstanding examination results.

During the last few years, the school has achieved numerous National Awards, including achieving Business and Enterprise College status, becoming a National Pathfinder School for Enterprise, Sportsmark, Artsmark Silver, Investor in People Status and Recognition of Quality Award, to name but a few.

We are exceptionally proud of our students, all of which are entered for public examinations at the age of 16. We expect only the best from our students and naturally that involves hard work and consistent application to study.

We provide:

  • A full, balanced and varied education for students of all abilities giving them the confidence to attain examination success above the national average.
  • A committed and dedicated team of staff providing quality education through co-operation with students. 
  • An academic curriculum which includes:

MISSION STATEMENT

The Appleton School is committed to providing an ordered, stimulating learning environment in which all students are encouraged to achieve at their highest level. It is determined that all students should be valued through the provision of a broad, relevant, balanced and challenging curriculum properly catering for individual needs. Such valuing is encouraged within an atmosphere of mutual respect amongst all those involved in the learning process. The school recognises its role within the broader community. It is determined to maintain a business and enterprise culture throughout the curriculum and across extended learning opportunities. It identifies learning as a lifelong process and values the contribution made by parents and others tolifelong process and values the contribution made by parents a the creation of a partnership. Within this partnership, and through the learning programme, students will develop skills, attitudes and values that properly prepare them to accept the challenges and responsibilities of adult life.

Our specialist status as a Business and Enterprise College means we can provide a wide variety of courses to 11 - 16s.

The Appleton School was designated as a Business and Enterprise College in September 2003.

Why Business and Enterprise?

When selecting a specialism we wished to ensure that we selected an area that we believed could impact positively on all areas of the curriculum and was in keeping with the schools philosophy and the aspirations of our local community.

For our students this will mean: -

  • An Increase in option choices at KS4.
  • More specialist teachers.
  • A dedicated Business and Enterprise manager.
  • More planned opportunities to develop the skills of enterprise, self-reliance and problem solving across their subjects.
  • Business and Enterprise activity days in each year.
  • Opportunities to set up their own business.
  • More mentoring within school.
  • Running the School bank with HSBC.

For our local schools this will mean: -

  • Closer links with our local schools.
  • Technical support and resources for our partner primaries.
  • Support for local schools in recruiting high quality teaching staff.
  • More collaborative working with SEEVIC and other post 16 providers.
  • Ongoing staff training opportunities.

For the local community this will mean: -

  • Maths, Business and ICT courses for parents and other members of the community.

Our status represents an exciting way forward for the Appleton school: students, staff and the wider community. We have the opportunity to build on excellent practice that has gone before to create our new school. The curriculum and the approaches to learning will be designed to meet the challenges of the changing business environment. The resources and building will support these approaches to education. FACILITIES AND LEARNING

The main School Hall comfortably seats more than 200 and can accommodate 400 for school events. Situated at the front of the school, accessible directly from the attractive foyer, it is ideal for private lettings and major school events.
