Introduction |
Known locally as the "Red School" because of the scarlet uniforms, Woodford Green Preparatory School was founded in 1932 to provide a non-denominational Christian education for boys and girls, a tradition that has been maintained throughout our history and expansion to some 380 pupils. Regular assemblies, attended by all, reinforce the community spirit.
Pupils are encouraged to take on responsibility. All the top year have community duties, including assisting younger children.
While we are justifiably proud of our excellent record of success in entry examinations for selective secondary schools, we believe that moral, social and cultural education carry equal weight. Every child in the school is equally important to us, wherever their talents lie.
The friendly, supportive environment, in which good work, good behaviour and helpfulness are positively reinforced, encourages all children to develop to their potential.
We believe strongly that children ought to enjoy their time at school.

The educational programme followed by all pupils is linked to the National Curriculum, without being enslaved by it, and includes - as well as the core subjects of English, mathematics and science - history, geography, RE, art, music, design technology, ICT, French, German, Spanish and research skills in our well equipped library
Physical education also plays a major part in the school's life. PE classes take place in our purpose built gymnasium and sports sessions either on site or at local facilities.
The school enjoys considerable success in competitive sport against external opposition in football, netball, cross-country, athletics, cricket, rounders, swimming, gymnastics and hockey.
Lessons are conducted by qualified and experienced class teachers, with art, music, DT, ICT, sports and French being taught by specialists. Assistance for pupils requiring educational reinforcement is provided throughout the school, in small groups or individually, by our team of support teachers.

Classroom lessons are enhanced by regular outings and visits to theatres, museums, galleries, other educational locations and school-based workshops conducted by visiting practitioners. Older pupils are offered the opportunity to take part in residential trips organised by the school.
Woodford Green Preparatory School has a strong tradition of music, dance and drama. As well as timetabled music lessons, there is the extra option of individual tuition in a wide variety of instruments.
Many of our young musicians play in our orchestra and our several bands and ensembles. Two choirs perform regularly and there are also tap, ballet and speech and drama classes as optional extras.
Assemblies, plays, concerts and musicals at various points through the year offer opportunities for all ages to perform before an audience.
Many pupils enjoy extra-curricular activity, which takes place before school, during lunch breaks and after school. An up-to-date list can be obtained from the school office, as some of these activities are seasonal and change from time to time. There is also outside school hours supervision available as an extra.

Full uniform details and the name and address of our school outfitters would be provided at the time a definite school place is offered to a child. |
