11+ entry to Year 7
Admission to Gravesend Grammar School at age 11 is through the Kent Admissions Procedure. It requires parents to complete the Kent Common Application Form which is handed out to year 6 children in their primary schools. Alternatively, parents can apply online.
Gravesend Grammar School does not require a separate admissions form.
Pupils choosing Gravesend will be required to sit the County’s entrance tests in January and successful candidates will normally be offered places. Where we cannot accommodate all the children, places are offered according to our over-subscription criteria. Essentially this means that we rank all eligible students according to the criteria below:
- Eligible boys who have a Statement of Special Educational Needs, who name the school on the Statement, or who are in Local Authority Care
- Eligible boys who have a brother who will still be attending the school when the applicant joins.
- Eligible boys who live within the borough of Gravesham and the civil parishes of Ash-cum-Ridley, Bean, Fawkham, Hartley, Longfield, New Barn, Southfleet, Stansted and Swanscombe and Greenhithe (Galley Hill and Swanscombe Wards)
- Eligible boys who have the higher scores in the VR test. In the event of a tie in VR scores then other tests will be used.
The top 150 students are selected.
Pupils living in the following parishes are eligible for free transport, if they live more than 3 miles away:
Cobham, Gravesend, Higham, Luddesdown, Meopham, Shorne, Vigo
