Hawkinge Primary School

The School

Hawkinge Primary School was established in 1879 with a roll of 19 children. As the village developed so the number of children has increased and there are 289 in attendance, the intake area includes the parishes of Hawkinge, Acrise, Swingfield, Densole and Paddlesworth.

School Organisation

The school is designated as a Community Primary School to serve the educational needs of boys and girls from the age of five to eleven. The school is at present organised into 11 classes. These are generally divided into chronological age groups although there may be a certain amount of overlapping according to the numbers involved. All classes are of mixed ability and work is graded according to the needs of the individual child.

MISSION STATEMENT

At Hawkinge Primary School, we encourage the whole child to reach his or her full potential and acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and values for life.

OUR CLASSES

Our teacher is Ms Thompson. This is what some of 'Squirrels' think of school so far:

  • "School is fun, I like cutting and sticking" (Lucinda)
  • "I like the puppets" (Taylor)
  • "I like going into the outside classroom. I have brought my wellies to school!" (Alex)

Fox cubs -

Our Teacher is Mrs Carroll.

This is what we like about school:

  • "We like to do painting" (Victoria)
  • "We like chalking outside" (Lauren)
  • "We like Froggy and Postie puppets who help us with our numbers and letters"  (Olivia)

Penguins

Our Teachers are Mrs Bispham and Mrs Dillon.

The penguins class is a mix of year 1 and 2 pupils, who have two teachers - Mrs Bispham and Mrs Dillon and our teaching assistant Mrs Honzik. They have begun the year with a 'getting-to-know -you' theme and will move on to the topic of 'toys' and 'travelling'. The penguins are looking forward to a fun and exciting year, making lots of new friends at school.

Tigers-

Our Teacher is Mr Rogers

"Hello, and welcome to the jungle!" My name is Mr Rogers, and I am the Year 1 teacher, where I am in charge of looking after the tigers! There are 26 Tigers in our class in total, who last year were in either the Fox Cubs or Squirrels.

This term we are looking at Barnaby Bear as our topic and doing lots of fun work, based around it, such as looking at places in the  world, writing postcards, making sky/ cloud pictures and the weather along with many others!

In our class we have a fantastic TA, Mrs Hart who the children really like and enjoy learning with!

Koalas

Our Teacher is Miss Godden

We are the Koalas. We like reading books and doing PE. This term we are learning about different parts of the world with Barnaby Bear. We all work together, and help each other out.

Butterflies-

Our Teacher is Mrs Persuad.

We are the butterflies: we fly from lesson to lesson. Learning all the time to prepare us for our future.

We love to dance and do PE. Music is favourite too. In I.C.T we have been creating our own songs. Whatever the lesson we are keen to learn.

Dragonflies

Our Teachers are Miss Francis and Miss Davis

This term the 'DRAGONFLIES' are studying India - its history, geography and religion. We are an excited class, to be taught by an Australian teacher! We are looking forward to learning a lot from Miss Davis, and everybody is full of learning.

Anteaters -

Our Teacher is Mrs Nicholson - Taylor. We have anteaters all over our classroom windows! Our class is bursting with brains, whoever sets foot into our classroom always learns so much! We have lots of friendly people in the class, we look after each other and make friends easily. (by Jordan)
