Welcome to Meopham Community Primary School

our school emblem

Meopham C.P. School is positioned in the middle of the longest village in Europe. The surroundings, together with the large playing fields and very attractive grounds, contribute towards a relaxed but purposeful atmosphere of hard work.

The school is a two form entry primary school for children aged between 4 and 11 years old, arranged into fourteen classes.

JOINING OUR SCHOOL

We recommend that before parents choose a school they visit us and experience the atmosphere during the school day. We welcome visits from parents who are moving house or want to change their child's school for other reasons.

All children starting school for the first time are invited to spend part of four afternoons in school during the term before they start.

Children have to start school in the term following their fifth birthday but, in practice, most children are admitted before they are five. Pupils are admitted to school in accordance with the County admissions policy.

Our main intake is in September. Children may also begin school in January.

Before school routines

The children have done really well and are in the routine of going round to the playground in the morning. Well done everyone!

Lunch time

Please ensure that you send in dinner money in an envelope stating your child's name and which days you are paying for. Dinners cost £1.80 per day. You can pay for a week or term at a time. Please ensure money is sent in on Monday mornings.

If your child is bringing their own lunch, please send in named packed lunch box. We ask that you do not send in carbonated drinks and sweets. We encourage healthy eating in our school.

Please ensure that if your child is having a hot dinner, you do not send in a packed lunch box. If you send in fruit for play time, please send it in a small named box, a named sandwich bag or put a name sticker on it.  Water bottles for the classroom should be separate from the packed lunch box.

PE kits

PE kits will be sent home at the end of each term for washing. Please ensure they are sent back on the first day of each new term.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum is planned, organised and supported by staff so that the children of all abilities have teaching that excites and rewards them with confidence and progress. All school activities are focused on what the children will learn.

During the school year, each year group's work is planned around a series of topics. Many topics are now taught in weekly blocks. These are organised so that all areas of the National Curriculum are included during the year.

The school holds creative days and weeks where the whole school focuses on two subject areas for the day, including many cross curricular activities.

In the autumn term 2006 the whole school had a 'space' week. We had great fun and learnt a lot of new information about space. Click here to see some of the work we produced.

In the summer term 2005, we held an 'explore' week where each class decided what they would like to focus on. This varied throughout the classes, but in each class the week started with a book which sparked the children's imaginations. Reception explored minibeasts, Year One explored the world by 'visiting' different countries and continents each day. Year Two read a Paddington story and carried out many fun but educational activities on that theme. Older children found out about explorers, such as Neil Armstrong and Christopher Columbus.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

We have a range of clubs which provide extra-curricular activities, such as:

These are generally organised at lunchtimes and after school. Some clubs are seasonal and run at different times throughout the year.

Occasionally the sport clubs participate in matches against other schools.
