WELCOME!!!

Situated on one of the highest points of the Isle of Thanet, on Kent's north-east  tip, Northdown School serves the Millmead and Dane Valley housing estates of the resort town of Margate.

With the sea on three sides, pupils get  plenty of fresh air, frequently, straight from the arctic!

MISSION STATEMENT

We will ensure all our pupils achieve their full potential

We will work in partnership with parents and the community

We will create a calm and safe learning environment

UNIFORM

We are proud of our school uniform.

We hope your child will wear the school colours of navy blue with a red logo.  Many children wear the school sweatshirt with grey or black skirts and trousers.  In summer blue/white dresses are also worn.

School sweatshirts, caps, woolly hats, book bags and P.E. Bags can be bought at the school office.  Sweatshirts range from £8.00 to £9.50.  Caps, hats and bags are £3.00.

Children will need a PE kit comprising shirt, shorts and plimsolls/trainers.  Plimsolls/trainers are for use in outdoor games; indoor PE is done barefoot.  It is essential that children have a range of clothing for PE and that their PE kit is stored in an appropriate PE bag.

All clothing should be clearly marked with your childs name.  Items of clothing are frequently handed in as lost property and their owners never traced because the clothing has not been marked.  The school cannot be held responsible for any lost property.

Children are not encouraged to bring valuables to school and the school cannot take responsibility for loss or damage to such articles.  Pupils may wear watches.  No jewellery including earrings may be worn during any PE activities.

Damage or loss of personal property should be covered under your own house contents insurance.  Parents may wish to cover their children for personal accident.  The KCC policy provides cover only where negligence on the part of an employee or defect in the premises can be proven

CURRICULUM

As in other state schools all the children of statutory school age at Northdown Primary School follow the National Curriculum.  This means they follow nationally agreed programmes of study in Maths, English, Science, Information Communication Technology, Art, Music, PE, History, Geography and Design and Technology.  In addition to the subjects specified in the National Curriculum the school curriculum also includes Religious Education and cross-curricular issues such as Personal and Social Education, Health Education, Environmental Education, Equal Opportunities and Multi-Cultural Education.

A range of extra-curricular activities, including recorders, choir, art and craft, football, netball, hockey and rugby are organised at lunchtimes and after school.   We also run a breakfast club, half-term activities and summer school.
