We firmly believe that it is our responsibility to create and sustain a disciplined and ordered environment in which each pupil may work to fulfill his or her maximum potential. We wish to create a school in which children work hard and are happy. A school in which everybody is valued and is able to contribute fully.

We support the National Curriculum as it describes an entitlement for all children. Teachers at Sellindge School will use a variety of strategies, including group, class and individual teaching to deliver the curriculum and meet the needs of the children within the Class.

Key Stages
In England Reception age children work on a Foundation Stage curriculum. In Years 1 and 2 they work within Key Stage 1 (KS1) guidelines and at the end of Year 2 children sit National Standard Assessment Tests (SATs). Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 work within Key Stage 2 (KS2) guidelines and again at the end of their Key Stage of work in Year 6 they sit Standard Assessment Tests.

We expect that all our children will wear school uniform. This encourages a strong sense of belonging to the school. We want our children to be proud of Sellindge School. School sweatshirts can be ordered and purchased through the school office. Other items of uniform are available in local shops.

Black or brown shoes, not trainers; these are unsuitable for wear all day in school and do not treat our floors kindly!

PLEASE could P.E. equipment be kept in a small, named bag which can easily hang from a peg.

Art and Craft
An old shirt or an art overall will help to keep paint and glue off children's clothing. This is a very important piece of equipment needed by all our children.

Labelling Clothes
The County Council do not accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property of pupils. Marking all clothing and items your child may bring to school is essential!.

Lost Property
Named property will be distributed to owners. Un-named property will be kept in a box for a short time before it is disposed of.

The involvement of parents in many aspects of school life is of great value and is something which we actively encourage. Parents help with craft, sports, cooking and other activities. Parental involvement in reading in school and at home is greatly valued. If you would like to become involved in these activities, please ask your child's teacher or the Head Teacher.

We believe that education is a two-way partnership between home and school.
If you have any concerns about your child, please make an appointment and come and see us.
An Open Evening is held in the autumn term to see children's work and meet the teacher. Parent consultation meetings are also held in the summer term following the issuing of annual written reports.
