Message from the Head teacher
Welcome to Shears Green Community Infant School web site. My name is Mrs Sue Walker. I am in my sixth year as Head teacher of Shears Green Infant School in Gravesend Kent. I was previously a Head teacher in Bexley, Kent at a smaller Infant School. As a class teacher and deputy head I have worked in Bexley and Gravesham schools and for 3 years at a school on an army base in Germany. I am proud to be the Head teacher of Shears Green Infant School.
Main school entrance
We have a family-friendly school, where each child is valued. We have high standards of behaviour and offer the very best start to a child's education. Our school is totally inclusive and takes children from a wide area of Northfleet and Gravesend. We have a dedicated teaching staff and a high ratio of experienced support staff. We make learning fun and meaningful.
We have very supportive parents and a thriving PTFA, who organise activities for the children throughout the year.
We share our spacious site with Shears Green Junior School and liaise closely with them.
We are fortunate to have a spacious well-maintained building. We have two halls, a computer suite, a care suite, 12 large classrooms with wide corridors, a large entrance hall, library area, a dedicated SEN room and spaces suitable for group work.
We believe that the quality of the school environment is very important and we work hard to maintain our building and grounds. We have a large playground, covered outdoor play area and a large field. We have also planted an environmental garden to further enhance our site.
Our school has strong perimeter fencing and strict entrance procedures to keep our children and our school secure. We have recently had extensive roofing completed and many windows and doors replaced.
Shears Green Infant School has served the local community for over 50 years. You are welcome to register your child for our school at any time. Please just contact the school office with your child's details. When the time comes for you to apply for a place, we will then ensure that you receive application details.
At Shears Green, we have lots to be proud of and nothing to hide. If you would like to visit our school please contact the school office for an appointment. If you have any questions or queries we will do our very best to answer them. We look forward to meeting you and your family in the near future.
Our School
Shears Green Infant School is housed in a pleasant, modern well maintained building, built in 1954 with a generous allowance of space. We have a large playground with markings and a field. We share the site with Shears Green Junior School.
At present leading off the entrance hall, there are three corridors of classrooms, each with it's own cloak room and toilet facilities. We have two new classrooms that have replaced old mobiles and we also have a new care suite.
We have a good range of audio visual equipment, including televisions, video players, DVD players, cameras, interactive whiteboards and a networked computer suite.
Children using computers
We also have a range of musical instruments, including a grand piano, in our main hall.
A covered all weather play area is available for use all year. It has benches and tables, together with activity equipment, surrounded by a soft surface ground material.
We are very proud of our site. We train the children to be sensible with litter and to respect trees, shrubs, and equipment so that they develop an attitude of care and responsibility. We encourage our parents to co-operate with this to ensure the facilities can be enjoyed by future generations. |
