About Us

St. Andrew’s School has a non-selective academic entry. Priority for places is given to pupils who already have brothers or sisters at the school.

The school has a very happy, family atmosphere that can be attributed to the sensitive and sensible way in which the staff teach and care for the children. The enthusiasm for the children to be successful creates a stimulating environment that is conducive to learning. The school is proud of its traditional style of teaching and learning with an emphasis on class teaching.

The discipline in the school is based on mutual respect amongst pupils, peers and teachers. The children have clearly defined parameters of behaviour and are taught to show respect to all with whom they come into contact.

The school’s aim is to develop well-rounded, enthusiastic learners who will make a strong contribution to their senior schools both as good citizens and as pupils who are prepared to work hard in order to achieve success. The measure of the curriculum at St. Andrew’s should be that which the children take with them and continue to develop throughout their school careers.

Independent schools such as St. Andrew’s have, for some years, had the advantage of monitoring the development of the National Curriculum without suffering from the effects of its immediate imposition. St. Andrew’s has been able to adapt the best procedures of traditional teaching methods and modern methods of learning.

St. Andrew’s benefits greatly from its smaller class sizes giving teachers greater flexibility in the classroom and greater opportunities to assess the needs of each child. A good teacher will constantly reassess his or her own performance by measuring the effectiveness of their teaching based on the learning and progress of the pupils.

St. Andrew’s School is proud to provide equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender, race, ethnic or cultural background and we expect and encourage all children to have full access to the curriculum. Although we are not a church school, the school meets regularly in the nearby church for Assemblies and the end of term service which are Christian in nature. Parents may request that their children be excused from the services on religious grounds.

The provision of specialist teachers gives a continuity that has been successful in subjects such as French, Art, music and PE. The school boasts an ICT suite where the pupils are taught to use the technology that will enhance their learning and communication skills.

The school has a set curriculum to which each teacher adheres, but has the flexibility to adapt to their own particular style and personality. The success of the children in the 11+ and SAT examinations reflects the school curriculum with a large percentage of children moving on to the selective grammar schools in the Medway and Kent area.

St. Andrew’s School enrols pupils from the age of 2 ½ years up to the age of 11 years.

The school is divided into three sections:

1. Pre-School, Pre-Reception (Foundation)
2. Reception (Foundation) & Infants (Key stage 1)
3. Juniors (Key Stage 2)

Application for inclusion on St. Andrew’s waiting lists
Applications for enrolment are welcome at any stage in the school, although our main enrolment is for the Reception Year in September.

Requirements:
To complete and return the application form with a £20 application fee.
This does not guarantee a place at St. Andrew’s School but ensures that your child is placed on our waiting lists for future consideration.

Entry to St. Andrew’s Pre-School

Requirements:
To complete and return the Pre-School Registration form with a £100 refundable deposit.
This deposit is refunded when your child leaves the Pre-School or the amount will be deducted against the *deposit due for entry to the main school.

Priority of places

1. Given to children who have siblings that attend St. Andrew’s School.
2. Given to those children who have expressed an interest in completing their education with St. Andrew’s School.

Entry to St. Andrew’s School

Requirements:
To complete and return the registration form with a deposit of *£375.00 (of which £100 is non- returnable).
This deposit is refunded against your last term’s fees at St. Andrew’s School.

Priority of places

1. Given to children who have siblings at St. Andrew’s School.
2. Children who attended St. Andrew’s Pre-School
3. Length of association with St. Andrew’s School / Pre-School.
   Due to over subscription places may be subject to an interview procedure.

Entry to St. Andrew’s School in other years

Procedure:

• To complete and return the application form as previously stated.
• To visit the school and meet with the Principal ensuring we have all relevant information with regard to your child’s previous schooling.
• Your child will be invited to visit St. Andrew’s by arrangement and spend a day with his/her year group.
  In the Junior School your child will be assessed during the day

A place may then be offered to your child on satisfactory completion of the above providing there are spaces available in that year group.

To complete and return the registration form with a deposit of £375.00 (of which £100 is a non-returnable deposit).
This deposit is refunded against your last term’s fees at St. Andrew’s School.
