St Lawrence Primary School

St Lawrence Pre-School is set in the village hall at Stone Street near Sevenoaks, accessible from the A25. We provide quality care and education in a secure and safe environment for all children from 2 years and 6 months of age. It is small and friendly Pre-School, with a team of qualified, enthusiastic and dedicated staff. It is run by committee, with most members elected from parents of the children attending. Our aim is to enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age in a stimulating environment, working together with parents.

We offer your child a specially tailored curriculum leading to the early learning goals set out by the government. This includes individual care and attention made possible by the high ratio of adults to children, with the support of a personal Keyworker. Above all St Lawrence Pre-School provides fun and friendship for your child, whilst giving you opportunities to be directly involved in activities and your child's progress.

Opening times for Pre-School are:
Monday 9.15am to12.00am
Tuesday 9.15am to12.00pm and 12.00pm to 3.00pm
Wednesday 9.15am to12.00am
Thursday 9.15am to12.00pm and 12.00pm to 3.00pm
Friday 9.15am to12.00am

We promote equal opportunities, throughout the Pre-School and for all members of our group, including those with special needs. The number of adults present enables us to provide the attention required for each and every child. Each child is encouraged to progress at his/her own rate in all areas of development; this is true for children with or without disabilities or learning difficulties.

Fees are £7.90 per session, morning and afternoon sessions, and payable in advance half termly.

OUR CHURCH

St Lawrence Church is next door to the school and both were built on church land in 1865. School and church therefore enjoy very strong links. Several church members are deeply involved in the life of the school. Three regular worshippers are school governors and, in addition, Brian and Mary Sutton help in the garden, with Brian himself also helping with special reading tuition and as clerk to the governors.

Our vicar, Revd Michael Cooke, is of course a Foundation Governor and helps take Assemblies. (He's a research chemist by training, so sometimes does a chemical experiment to illustrate a Christian truth.)

For the last few years, the Church Council has provided a special youth bible to each pupil leaving for secondary school. Week by week a different aspect of school life is prayed for at the church's main Sunday service.

The church building is used by the school for some assemblies, and for major school events (Harvest, Leavers' service, etc), and for occasional classes teaching something about the church or special parts of it.

Once or twice a year there's a special invitation for pupils, parents and staff to join the usual worshippers for the Sunday service.

The school shelter building is used by the church for its Sunday school (held usually on 3rd Sunday of the month). Most recently the church arranged to have built at the end of the shelter a disabled toilet for both church and school use - another example of partnership.

CLUBS

For our small school we have a large number of clubs and so we do encourage all the children to make good use of the opportunities available to them. Generally, the first week will be considered a ‘taster’ but after that we would ask the children to make a firm commitment. The exception to this is Wednesday computer club which is available to anyone as and when they need it for homework/research etc.
