Wellesley House is a Co-educational Boarding Preparatory School for children between the ages of 7 and 13. Approximately two thirds of the children are boys. Most of the children are full boarders but some children board weekly or attend as day children. The 7-9 year old boys have their own boarding house attached to the main school. The Junior House is run by a Housemaster, and his wife, Matrons and ancillary staff.

All the girls are accommodated at The Orchard, a separate house on the far side of the grounds, set amongst fruit trees and private lawns. The Orchard is also run by a Housemaster and his wife, Matrons and ancillary staff. The Headmaster and his wife live in the Main School building where the 10-13 year old boys are accommodated under the care of the Director of Boarding and two resident matrons.

Wellesley offers small classes, superb facilities and a dedicated teaching staff. Children are encouraged to enjoy sport, music, art and drama whilst at the same time developing their academic strengths. A strong sense of family values pervades and the happiness of each child is paramount. Traditional links with leading senior schools are maintained and in the last few years children have won a range of scholarships to Benenden, Eton, Harrow, King’s Canterbury and Lancing. Children thrive at Wellesley, learning the benefits of teamwork, and a host of extra curricular activities including sailing, riding, golf, fencing and dance ensure the children are stimulated, motivated and happy.

At Wellesley House we encourage children to make the most of their formative years at prep school and we provide them with an all-round education which will equip them for life in the 21st Century.

ADMISSIONS

The majority of children enter the School in the Junior House. Children are accepted at older ages if vacancies exist within the appropriate year group.

Parents seeking admission for their children should arrange to visit the school and meet the Headmaster, preferably during term time. After this meeting the Registration Form is completed and sent to the school together with the registration fee (see below).

When the school confirms that the child has a guaranteed place the parent is asked to fill in a Confirmation of Entry Form and to pay the Confirmation of Entry fee as set out below. This sum is deducted from the fee of the child's last term in the school.

CURRICULUM

Our primary aim is to prepare our pupils for entry to their senior schools via Common Entrance or scholarship examinations and to equip them with the confidence and motivation to flourish in the years ahead.

We aim to develop a love of learning. All children are taught in small classes by fully qualified, dedicated staff who are able to give pupils individual attention

The curriculum is deliberately broad and goes beyond the confines of the National Curriculum. Initially, the focus is on English, Maths and Science but all other academic subjects are also taught. In addition there is specialist teaching throughout the school in art, music, PE, craft and ICT.

As pupils move up the school, Latin is introduced and Spanish, German and Ancient Greek are offered as options.

Our academic reputation is excellent and Wellesley pupils gain entry to a variety of prestigious schools, many with scholarships.

In the last five years pupils have gone on to: Benenden, Brighton College, Eastbourne, Eton, Harrow, King's Canterbury, Lancing, Radley, Rugby, Stowe and Tonbridge among others.
