The governors and staff at West Lodge are delighted that you have chosen to find out more about our school and have recognised the clear need to invest in a high standard of primary education. We are sure that you will be stimulated by what we have to offer the individual child, together with our commitment to develop close professional relationships with parents.
West Lodge was founded in 1940 and is now an educational trust. The main building is a Victorian house, well adapted to use as a school, whilst still retaining its homely atmosphere. Facilities include a fully equipped gymnasium, science/art room, music rooms and a computer suite. West Lodge is a co-educational school and in the current school year, 2005/6, we have 100 girls and 60 boys in attendance.
The school has a strong academic tradition and a purposeful atmosphere permeates each class. The National Curriculum is at the core of the school's curriculum, but is enhanced and enriched by the inclusion of a wider range of experiences. Subjects taught at present include; English, mathematics, science, information and communication technology, religious education, music, drama, French, history, geography, design technology, art & crafts, games, PE and swimming.
Great emphasis is placed on a thorough grounding in basic learning skills, with literacy and numeracy seen as key elements in the foundation upon which future learning will be built. Particular care is taken to extend the most gifted children to support the less able. The school has a consistent record of a high level of entry to independent schools and local selective schools.
Music has a particularly high profile within the school and all the children are encouraged to develop their talents. Well qualified peripatetic staff give both group and individual lessons and children of all ages are encouraged to join the school orchestras. Concerts and dramatic performances are staged regularly and parents are warmly invited to attend.
If you would like to learn more about West Lodge, then please telephone the school secretary and make an appointment to come and visit us. The Head Teacher will be delighted to show you around and you will be able to judge our success for yourselves.
