UNIFORM

Boys
Grey or black trousers, white shirt, school sweatshirt or fleece.

Girls
Navy blue skirt, trousers, or pinafore, white blouse, school sweatshirt, cardigan or fleece. Blue/white gingham dress for summer.

Footwear
Please send your child to school in flat, black, sensible school shoes. Trainers must be plain black to fit with the school dress code. Open-toed sandals should not be worn for safety reasons.

Physical Education Uniform

Your child will need a PE kit of plimsolls, socks (especially important if your child wears tights), plain shorts and a white T-shirt. These should be in school at all times, even if your child has swimming or outdoor games as their PE lesson, as there are sometimes timetable changes. A track suit may be brought for outdoor games lessons in winter.
For swimming, your child will need a costume or towel.
If your child has pierced ears, it is important for safety reasons that they do not wear earrings for PE, so it would be helpful if they do not wear them on PE days.
Children with long hair must be able to fasten it back neatly, again for safety reasons.

CLUBS

The school has a wide range of after school and lunch time activities for children to enjoy.

Some of the current clubs are:

- Gymnastics Club
- Netball Club
- Football Club (Boys and Girls)

There will be an update shortly to list all clubs that will be running this year.

LANGUAGE UNIT

The language unit delivers a specific and specialist language based curriculum. All children entering the Unit will be statemented and meet the entry criteria which stipulates that children will have a specific language disorder, have non-verbal ability within the normal range and no significant hearing loss. The difficulties with which these children present will include receptive/expressive disorders, severe phonological problems, dyspraxia and semantic/pragmatic disorders. In addition many of the children present with problems in other areas of communication including dyslexia type disorders.

All children follow National Curriculum with a small steps programme modified where appropriate. Revising and updating the curriculum in accordance with current procedures and presenting needs is part of the Unit’s commitment to the children. Specialist programmes will be implemented to remediate the children’s language difficulties including specific literacy programmes for those experiencing problems with reading and writing. Each child will be assessed on entry and will have an Individual Education Plan with time-bounded targets. Parents will be invited to discuss these targets and their evaluation at regular intervals.

Speech and language therapy is essential for all our children in the remediation of their difficulties and the Speech and Language Therapists work closely with the staff in the setting of targets and day-to-day management of children’s problems. The number of therapy sessions each child receives will be dependant on their particular needs. All children receive regular therapy each week.

All children have a homework pack. It is not obligatory for the children to do homework, but we ask that parents do co-operate and assist children where necessary each evening, if only for a few minutes. A home/school diary is given to each child to ensure effective communication between home and school, particularly in view of the fact that most children are transported to school and therefore do not have normal daily contact. Parent evenings are held termly and we ask parents to make every effort to attend. Parents will have an opportunity to see teachers and speech therapists at these meetings, view their children’s work and discuss their Individual Education Plans. The school is a member of A.F.A.S.I.C. (Association for all speech impaired children) and parents representatives from the language Unit Parents Association (L.U.P.A) will be happy to discuss any activities and meetings that A.F.A.S.I.C. hold.
