Welcome
We are very pleased to welcome you to Elrick Primary, where you will find a warm friendly atmosphere. We have an ‘open door’ approach and you are welcome in the school at any time. However, it does help us if we know in advance of your wish to visit us, so do please contact us beforehand if you possibly can.
The school has a pleasant, friendly, yet businesslike air. There is a clear sense of purpose; staff and pupils go about their activities cheerfully, with interest, enthusiasm, and commitment.
You will find our pupils courteous and considerate, and their movement around the school well ordered. They are willing and able to speak to you about their work. You will also find them smartly dressed; we encourage all pupils to wear school colours.
Yellow Book System
Children who behave well throughout each term will be rewarded with verbal praise, stickers/certificates, extra playtime, exclusive use of playground equipment. However we recognise that children do not always follow school rules, therefore a system of penalty points, which was introduced at Elrick a number of years ago, will continue to be used to deal with negative behaviour in the playground, dinner hall, cloakroom areas, toilets, lining up. All playground staff, along with other members of staff will be familiar with and will use this system as follows:
Pupils who misbehave during break times in any of the above areas will incur penalty points
The more serious the offence the greater the number of points incurred, up to a maximum of 5 points per offence
Each misdemeanour, along with the penalty points will be recorded in the Yellow Book
Each week all staff and pupils will be informed of penalty points incurred and the reason for points being issued
Parents will be informed when a child builds up a total of 8 points, or if a child has incurred points on three consecutive weeks
Pupils will be given the opportunity to redeem themselves by behaving in an appropriate manner, following which points will be reduced by 1 the first week, 2 the second etc
