Welcome to our School

This website will help you to understand the organisation and purpose of our school. It is not exhaustive and we will be pleased to answer any questions you may have. We want every child at Godmanchester to look forward to coming to school to succeed and feel valued.

The education of children involves learning experiences at home and school, so we value your part in the work of the school. The learning opportunities we provide will help prepare your child for their future. We will work to the best of our ability to provide activities which inform, challenge and are suited to your child’s needs.

When your child moves to the next phase of their education, we want them to be able learners, motivated and equipped for the tasks ahead.

Yours sincerely
Philip Ellington

HISTORY

Godmanchester Community Primary School was located on its present site in 1955, and since then has had two major extensions. At present there are 420 pupils in 14 classes. This will go down over the next few years as our intake number is reduced slightly.

The school has good facilities, including a music, dance and drama hall, which is owned jointly with CIMA (Cambridgeshire Instrumental Music Agency), who use the hall after school hours. We also have our own indoor heated swimming pool built with the support of parents and the National Lottery. This is a tremendous facility both for the school and the community. Other facilities include an adventure play area, floodlit sports area, quiet garden courtyard and landscaped grounds.

ADMISSIONS

Godmanchester School follows the LEA (Local Education Authority) admissions policy, and has a catchment area covering most of Godmanchester. If you require further information on this admissions policy, please consult either the school office or the LEA.

ETHOS

Our school offers children and their families a high quality education.

It is a place for children, staff, governors and the community to lay the foundations for the future in an atmosphere of co-operation and tolerance.

At our school we work hard to foster caring attitudes, to consider and appreciate others.  We spend time developing self-esteem, self-discipline and independence and despite the constant changes in today’s educational world, we do believe the child remains at the centre of all learning and teaching.

We provide children with relevant, first hand experiences through which they will develop understanding, skills, and a body of knowledge in all curricular areas. Our curriculum is broad and balanced; the children ‘s learning is based on the National Curriculum. Quality is the key word; all children work towards a product of which they can be proud. Achievement is recognised and rewarded.

Our school environment is safe and friendly and we encourage the children to value and protect it. After all it is their school.

Parents are most welcome in school; they are encouraged to discuss openly any concerns and to play an active part in the life of the school. In partnership we aim to develop the full potential of every individual.
