Aims and Philosophy

At Kings Monkton, we have many aims, all of which centre upon developing the unique talents that every child possesses. Above all we aim to teach well, to provide a rich learning environment in which the academic potential of each child can be fully realised.

Aiming to achieve our bestBut academic success is nothing unless a child develops those essential skills that we all need to lead a fulfilling life. So at Kings Monkton we strive to prepare children for life by encouraging their growth towards self-awareness, independence and self-confidence.

We also pride ourselves on the quality of our pastoral care. Whether one is teaching a three-year-old the importance of sharing or guiding a teenager through the difficult years of adolescence, all pupils need care, support and security in order to develop.

Parents are important to us, too. We aim to be an open, accessible school and parents are encouraged to participate in their child's education and get involved in the life of the school.

ADMISSION

Our procedures

A visit to Kings Monkton is obviously the first step and we are happy to give parents and prospective pupils as much time as necessary in order to get to know the school at first hand. Children may join the school at any age and at any time during the school year if there are places available. All children are assessed before a place is offered.

This is an informal procedure for infants, usually when they spend a day at the school prior to joining. Junior children are usually required to sit an entrance test and this is inevitably the case for secondary children. The test normally comprises Reasoning, English and Maths.

Entry to the College depends upon students achieving a minimum of five GCSEs at grades A-C.

Kings Monkton offers a number of scholarships worth up to 50 per cent of school fees in the following categories:

  • Academic
  • Art
  • Music
  • Sport

These are available at 7+, 11+, 13+ and 16+ for entry in September.
