Welcome to Oakfield Primary School
Oakfield Primary School is situated in St Mellons, a rapidly expanding urban development to the east of Cardiff. The school, which is predominantly of open-plan design, caters for Junior, Infant and Nursery aged children.
VISION STATEMENT
Our vision at Oakfield Primary School is to create a welcome, caring environment in which all pupils are happy, self-confident, well-motivated and have a sense of personal adequacy to enable them to work to their full potential.
We endeavour to ensure that the delivery of the whole curriculum encompasses Desirable Outcomes (3 – 5 years) and the Programmes of Study of the National Curriculum (5 – 11 years). We aspire to help pupils to acquire a set of moral values on which to base their conduct and behaviour. We aim to provide each child, through religious education, collective worship and class projects, with a knowledge of Christianity and an awareness of other world religions.
Using a range of teaching techniques and by providing a wide range of experiences we hope to develop pupils creative and aesthetic abilities. We aim to foster home school liaison in order to maintain and further improve the links between school, parents and the local community. Pupils are encouraged to respect their environment and particularly to address the litter problem which exists in the St Mellons area.
As a school we are extremely concerned about the quality of interpersonal relationships. To this end we have developed a policy to promote good behaviour and to encourage children to evaluate their relationships with peers.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The school is involved in a range of varied activities throughout the year. Some activities involve a whole class, other activities involve small groups. Many activities are of an extra-curricular nature and are offered voluntarily by staff during breaktime, lunchtime and after school.

TRANSFER TO SECONDARY SCHOOL
Children at Oakfield Primary School transfer to secondary school in the September following their eleventh birthday.
Rumney High School receives most of our pupils as they are the secondary school for our catchment area. We enjoy close links with Rumney. Prior to transfer we ensure that pupils make a number of visits to the school in order to familiarise themselves with the premises and to enable them to participate in a variety of lessons. Every effort is made to minimise pupils' concerns about moving from primary to secondary education.
