Welcome to Lowton St Mary's CE Primary School

Our Aims

At St. Mary's we believe that learning should be enjoyable and continue throughout life. We strive to educate the individual, promote independent learning and self confidence, within a Christian environment. We provide learning opportunities to cater for all learning styles. We nurture academic, social and spiritual development in our school community. We provide a secure, positive, and safe learning environment to achieve standards of excellence. We recognise that each child brings their own talents and life experiences to the classroom and encourage children to use those in their learning.

Ours is a Church School, and as such, we seek to foster the spiritual dimension of life which influences how we value ourselves, others and God's world.

HEADTEACHER`S MESSAGE

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to our "new look" school website!

At St. Mary's we consider the education of children to be an important and privileged task, shared by home, school and parish.

We acknowledge the great trust placed in us and we strive to achieve our very best for every child in our care.  We aim for every child and adult to feel happy, safe and respected.

This website is designed to give you a glimpse of the range of opportunities available to our children and community.

Whilst the web site is primarily aimed at parents, prospective parents and children; we wish to be fully involved in our immediate and wider communities, so we hope that everyone will find something of interest.  If you would like to visit us, please do so!

Parents and visitors often comment on the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of our school and we hope that you will agree - we'd love to see you!

Kind regards,

Lyn Baker - Head teacher

EDUCATION

School Curriculum

Our Curriculum is thematic, based around a central focus, and is carefully designed to ensure that the requirements of the National Curriculum are met in an exciting and interesting manner.

We have 3 principles:

  • Everyone at our school is a learner.
  • Everyone can succeed.
  • Everyone has talents.

We provide a rich and varied curriculum which engages our children and motivates them to do their best.

Your child's day may include:
English and mathematics across the curriculum.  We believe that children need to be able to use literacy and numeracy skills in a variety of ways, which will prepare them for the rapidly changing world.

Typing skills - we are a registered centre for Oxford & Cambridge RSA Qualifications.  In Year 6 children take the level 1 examination.  This is also open to adults in our community.

French - children from Reception onwards have a weekly lesson from a specialist teacher.

Spanish - children from Year 1 onwards have a weekly lesson from a specialist teacher.

Music - Children from Year 1 onward receive tuition in a simple instrument and have the opportunity to take public examinations.

Sport - we provide a wide range of sports, according to the season and children are encouraged to take part in competitions and tournaments.

Performing Arts - we provide many opportunities for children to experience live theatre and also take part in workshops and in performances.

ICT - we have 2 ICT suites and the school is very well equipped with modern ICT hardware and software.
