Nevill Road Junior School was built in 1951 and consists of three classroom wings, an assembly hall, a separate dining hall and a large entrance hall, housing our library. Two additional outside classrooms were added in the early seventies. These were replaced in November 1997. Another outside classroom was added in March 2000. This is now a Music Room.

All the classrooms are well equipped with modern furniture and the usual primary classroom resources. Each class has a networked computer and eight classes have an Interactive Whiteboard. In addition we have a computer suite and a wide range of audio visual apparatus. The school has extensive playing areas, including two playground areas - with three netball courts - and playing fields which include a number of mini-soccer pitches. The school is maintained by Stockport M B C.

At present the number of children on roll is 249 and they are taught in nine mixed ability, single aged classes. We have between twenty-six and thirty children in each class. The average class size is 27.6 children.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Included here is a shortened version of our teaching and learning policy adopted by the teaching staff. It gives an insight into our philosophies and our expected code of practice regarding teaching and learning at Nevill Road Junior School. We believe that all our children should be tolerant and understanding of others and that they should show respect for the views and property of others.

We believe that they should develop a sense of independence towards their studies and achieve a sense of aesthetic appreciation and spiritual awareness.

We believe that for a positive teaching and learning environment to exist, it is essential that we work in partnership with parents and the wider community.

All of our staff, Governors, parents and pupils will work towards fulfilling our aims by:

respecting children as individuals - their rights, values and beliefs.

- fostering positive relationships.

- encouraging a sense of belonging to the school.

- promoting good behaviour.

- offering all children the same opportunities.
